Gas/Fuel Price and hunting plans

Yah that adds up fast. Your still paying insurance on the truck though too. Im not saying there's a right answer to the situation I go back and forth on it all the time.

Tires are usually around 1300 for me iirc.

I’ve said it on here before I think, but I only need a pick up for 1% of my life and activities but it’s the 1% of my life and activities I like the most.

If all I did was bird hunt I would probably get something like an Outback.

One thing to remember - no annual registration in MT if you get "perm" plates. Think your vehicle has to be 10 years old though, but im not hunting in anything that isnt at least that old.

Trucka drink a lot less fuel when they aren't chad'd with 13 inch wide 35" tires.

$160 per year per vehichle here annually. Thats would be a illinois vs montana thing not a truck vs subaru though.

Save me probably a couple hundred a month on my water bill hauling it also so there is that.

Idk I may have had something done to it also while they had it but between operating cost of that truck and the fact I’ll probably have it another 15-20 years instead of hack g to replace it the car is worth the money to me

My truck registration was $550 this year. It'll be less next year because it'll be over 5 years old, but they really nail you as the GVW increases here.

Yep. I'll put like 2500 miles on it this year, so the cost of registration and insurance is probably worse than the gas per mile, but it'll get a lot more use next year when we don't have newborn. My wife's 7-year-old Rav4 is like $250 annually, and I just did permanent registration on my >10-year-old 4Runner that was about as much as the truck is annually.

I setup a treestand behind my house for the days Im at home and can hunt mornings and evenings maybe 4-5 times and Im combining trips between OR to MT to watch my daughter play vb/see my wife and elk hunt for 3-4 days at a stop over in western MT. Ive seen mult good bucks this year but only have about 2 acres of woods and and 5 acre hayfield to hunt.

The next item to seriously spike in price will be food. Fuel ismt dropping anytime soon, esp with cycling in the winter blend fuels over the next few months. Anyone living in the northeast should seriously consider getting a back up wood heating system or geothermal. The heating prices are going to get jacked this winter.

I was thinking he's driving a dually to spend that on tires. I just priced out 295 70 17 for my 2500 and they're $400/tire.
As for the fuel pricing, unless it goes into the $8-10 range, I'm not changing any plans.
I'm driving from eastern PA to central CO in 2 weeks for elk. Looking at the budget, I'll probably spend an extra $4-$500 on fuel vs what I originally thought. That's driving a ram 2500 mega cab that occasionally breaks 14 miles to the gallon on the highway - if it's going downhill with a tailwind.

Definitely not going to be changing any hunting plans, but will camp perhaps a bit more than normal. Won't be doing as many day trips, that's for sure.

I'm telling myself it's the fuel prices why I plan on extended trips, but really, it's more to do with having about 12 days left to work for the rest of my life.
