Usually Harley has this thread up by the time I've finished my Friday morning coffee. Saw this pic on FB and it made me think of this thread. Not sure who Luke Bryan is, but the other four have a heavy presence in my juke box.

Here is one of my favorite from one of those guys. As a teen, I almost wore a hole through the vinyl of this album. The guy is one of the best songwriters of all time.

Anyone else listen to these guys when you have grown tired of the junk they currently try to pawn off as country music? Anytime the bean counters and marketers take over an industry, things are not going to turn out good. Outdoor TV being a prime example, in addition to country music.

I decided I was getting old the other day when I realized that I pretty much only listen to the "classic" country station (80s & 90s country) whilst driving.

Proof positive that today's "country" music is pretty much the same crap song after song: http://youtu.be/FY8SwIvxj8o

Smarandr, if that's not a nail in the coffin, I don't know what is.

Ben Bullington, a Montana Country musician from White Sulphur Springs, died last year of pancreatic cancer. He sang some good stuff, and the song that turned me on to him was his lament that country music really sucks nowadays.

Country Music I'm Talkin To You

"It's not about the claims you make, true tales, or what's at stake.
I smell business, in everything you do."

"I don't care if you go church or if you're on some kind of other search.
And I sure don't care who out-country's who.
I want songs that make me feel something new and true and real. Not just touching bases safe and cute.

Country Music I'm Talkin to you"

There's still some good country music being made, but it's usually called "alt-country" or "Americana" and you won't find it on your typical Nashville country dial.

A couple favorites from Ryan Adams and the Cardinals (no longer together)

From Ryan Bingham

And this guy, Sturgill Simpson, just might be the second coming of Waylon.

Type one of these guys into Pandora and see what happens! Lots of great music still being made.

There's also lots of old music to be discovered too. Here's Waylon covering a Dylan tune I wasn't aware of until about a year ago. I find Dylan's voice tough to listen to a lot of the time and it took me hearing his songs done by others to really appreciate what a great song writer he was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgD5sY3Wme8
