Spent the last 6 days in the Frank Church doing a bit of work.

Caught a ride in with Middlefork aviation out of Challis.

Landed at the Thomas Creek airstrip right across from the Little Creek Guard station:

The inside of the Guard Station was pretty nice, stayed there on our last night.

The work I had to do was 11 miles away from the airstrip and on the very top of this picture, 2700 feet in elevation change in .97 miles. The good thing is the temperature was in the 90's.:

The view was decent from the top though, heres a view looking down Little Loon across the middlefork to Mahoney L.O from the divide between the West fork of Little Loon and Little Loon Creek.:

Heres a picture of Mahoney airstrip...while working we got to see a plane crash on the strip. Big cloud of dust and a busted up airplane, but apparently the pilot was fine:

You can see the airplane that crashed in this picture, sitting beside the airstrip, its the dark spot on the left side of airstrip:

The flight out was pretty scenic as well:

God's Country......... or maybe Allah's Country.......
What?

The Koran, Sura 5, verse 85, describes the inevitable enmity between Moslems and non-Moslems: "Strongest among men in enmity to the Believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans." Sura 9, verse 5, adds: "Then fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them. And seize them, beleaguer them and lie in wait for them, in every stratagem [of war]." Then nations, however mighty, the Koran insists, must be fought "until they embrace Islam." These canonical commands cannot be explained away or softened by modern theological exegesis, because there is no such science in Islam.

Glad you weren't in that plane crash.

...have they set a date yet??

I am hoping it will be in the Spring of a year, to coincide with the high water mark for the year, and they will get to pack in over the snow, paddle Marsh Creek for 22 miles, and then, somewhere below Dagger Falls, they will proceed to make sure there is an additional supply of Carbon in the river for the baby salmon to find nutrition from......

Tbone,

Didnt see much for wildlife...quite a few chukars, lots of blue grouse. Saw one black bear from the airplane. Lots of sign from elk, deer, and sheep, even found two wolf tracks in the mud...but the weather was an absolute beast in there...91 in the shade. I glassed toward evening a couple times and didnt find anything.

Not sure what the pay is Buzz, but regardless, your job has some great benefits. Sure beats "driving a desk" for a livin'.
