Frank Church Wilderness to allow chain saws......

If every on-line whiner would go cut 10-20 miles of trail this would be less of an issue. A lot less of an issue. Dont wait for "someone" to do it take the reins instead of snapping off those branches and crawling over and leaving it for the next 100 people, cut it 5' apart and roll it off the trail. "They should" translates well to "I won't".

Like these guys did?

The Forest Service couldn't keep up on trail clearing here in Montana on trails that allowed saws before the staff reduction. Fact. mtmuley

Pretty much but without the permission slip and the promo article, but Ill take those guys as neighbours in spite of their minor flaws. I know where they are coming from after a 10+ mile day my arms are so tired I cant even pat myself on the back without a groan...DB5BCF4E-8553-495F-A26E-4E4961F109C5_4_5005_c.jpeg

And?

It’s a funding issue. When I worked trails in the Selway-Bitteroot, there were 800+ miles of trail to clear with a crosscut and 4 trail crew and some MCC to help.

It’s not the tool it’s the funding and personnel.

I said trails that could be cleared with a chainsaw. Weren't. Prior to the new administration. I can show you. mtmuley

I’m not disagreeing. I’m just pointing out that funding and personnel have been an issue for a long time. Wilderness or front country.

So why is the blame put on this administration for things that have been going on for years? mtmuley

Stihl should capitalize on this, partner with Busch Latte for a new advertisement clearing trails in the wilderness since 2026.

Not sure. I’m not directly blaming Trump. It’s been a funding issue for years.

Although DOGE did exasperate the issue by firing 1000’s of field workers across multiple land use agencies and then implementing hiring freezes.

That definitely doesn’t help. First administration to make that move.

squirrel is right. If everyone just took a little time every time they are in the back country trails would open fairly fast. We've cut open a few miles of road and trail already this season. Carry a chainsaw and a katan silky saw all the time. Cleared out one road got 2 cords of wood in 175 yards. You all think you're going to travel anywhere in the back country and make time? HA! Not this season we've had horrible winds all late winter and spring so far in central Idaho.Learn to clear the roads/trails. Cut the logs back beyond the edge of roads and trails! Common sense isn't so common anymore.
