My son shot his first buck this morning. It wasn’t looking promising. We saw one coyote, but other than that we hadn’t seen anything. This guy walked out in a perfect location and my son made a perfect shot! He was pumped!

It seems like whenever he hunts with me, we have bad luck so he really needed this one. I think he was teetering on not wanting to hunt anymore. After he killed this deer he was asking me if he is old enough to get an elk or oryx tag, so I think he’s back in the game.

Learning some key lessons in patience and the rewards that can be attained by sticking with it are invaluable. Congratulations to your son. Enjoy the good eats that came with his success.

100%. he was frustrated last night because I made him pass on a couple shots that were just out of range and not optimal at all. Then we were just about to get a perfect opportunity, and a coyote came through and spooked everything.

After he shot today he commented that he was glad that we waited for a good shot. I told him that one of the hardest things to do while hunting is passing up shots and waiting for a good opportunity, but it can pay off if you are patient.
