Discovered my freezer was completely thawed today. I had just put all of my elk burger in it a couple weeks ago.

There is no foul odor at all. So I am wondering if it’s possibly still good? I probed the center of a package and it was 58.5 degrees. I opened a package and it looks good and smells good. Is there any danger if I thoroughly cook it?

Was that a package on top or on bottom?

Generally you don't want it to be over 40 degrees. If it was a couple hours that would be one thing. However how long was it over 40 degrees to get up to 58? You also don't know what temp different packages are.

Without knowing how long it was at that temperature I don't think I would trust it.

In my mind it's a gamble. It might be ok but it has been warm enough to allow bacteria to grow.

Alright here me out. Get it back frozen then invite your in-laws or if you like your in-laws someone you're not fond of over for dinner. Serve them some and see how it goes from there.

Seriously thought that sucks I lost a bunch of meat a few years ago to the same deal!

I’m sssuming that a top package so everything below should be fine. It was warm but if it doesn’t smell bad probably caught it before they went. Safe thing is to toss it. I hate wasting so I would freeze again fast and use it. If hamburger is bad you can smell it even while frozen

Now we gotta know cook some and eat it. If you don’t report back we will all have learned a lesson here
