My old truck was a Ford F150. It was great but got totaled when a college kid slammed into me on an icy road. Never had a Ranger. I do have a 2016 Frontier. I bought it in 2017 from a guy who fixed it up. It was a rental car and had been in a fender-bender and the rental company dumped it rather than fix it. (I still have the unfortunate driver's rental agreement in the glove box and his CD that was in the player.) It's a short bed and a crew cab. I like it because it is comfortable to drive and easy to park around town and it carries plenty of weight over the rear axle so it has much better snow traction than most pickup trucks. Lack of capacity in the short bed is a problem sometimes, like hauling firewood takes more trips. I have a canoe rack and a rocket box that allows me to pack more gear. Frankly, the poor Frontier has taken a beating. Deer collisions. An unfortunate incident when the tie-down on a canoe snapped, which hit the antenna so hard it punched a hole in the passenger door. A buddy backing into it at a river put-in. God awful mining and logging roads. The only mechanical thing that has gone wrong with it is the driver's door freezes in the cold, which is a problem when you've finally returned to the truck after a long day and you can't get in the damn thing. The mileage hovers around 20 on the highway which is poor, IMO. Overall, I don't regret going with the Nissan.

I love Toyotas and all but people around here want 14k for a Tacoma with 350k miles on it. It's just a bit absurd.

I have never sat in any Nissan car or truck and thought to myself this is more comfortable than my old danger ranger....plus you'll never find as many viral post as to the usefulness of a frontier compared to The Ford FN RANGER

Guess im not tracking with your line of thought.
I thought the high cost of Tacomas was associated with them actually made overseas. The Tundras made in the States are virtually the same cost.
Meanwhile my newest Nissan was conceivedin Mississippi.

I haven't had a ranger since 2005 when I sold my 98'. It was a great little pickup.
The truth is each mod will have specific builds to stay away from.
On the 2nd gen frontier. I have one and have been around a bunch of them. Its one of my favorite trucks. You can interchange most parts and accessories from 2008-2021? That is huge advantage. Ill be honest I have broken dam near everything on the truck but it isn't the trucks fault. I go really hard on really rough roads. Its almost exclusively used on roads most use wont drive a pickup on. I have broke the frame at both shock mounts broke 3 front lower control arms. 3 cv shafts. Blown 5 bilstein 5100 shocks 2 ARB shocks. You get it. I have put it through hell not the trucks fault.
Someone mentioned the atf cooler mixing into the radiator. I believe that problem was from 2008-2013. The easy fix was to bypass the factory atf cooler for an aftermarket one. Another common problem was the timing chan wearing through the guides around 150k mi. This can be heard at cold startup. Mine is on its factory timing set at 160k and has started to make the sound its a day worth of wrenching and 500$ to fix.
The nissan 4.0 was one of the most durable v6 ever produced. I've been around a lot of them and they are great little trucks.
If you find a 2016+ with low mileage you should have a good little truck.

Every Tacoma ever built, was built in North America. Mainly Mexico.

You'd be better off going with the Tundra than a Taco. Probably can get it cheaper too, if you don't want all the electrical bells & whistles.

Not sure about freedom unit conversions, but I sold my 2010 TRD in 2019 for $19k with 150,000Ks on it.

The guy who bought it worked for an exporter who buys Canadian vehicles and sells them in Montana. I like to think that my Taco is roaming the American West, hauling more dead critters. Man I miss that truck and can't wait to get my new one in a couple months. I went with a new 2026 since they're more or less cheaper than used 2024-2026s.
