Foraged Food Thread

First one of the year. Spotted it while taking a leak, walking the dog and child by the Bitterroot yesterday. Seemed like a rando one off. Not another in sight.

Didn’t find one sandplum bush with fruit on them yesterday. We did find three American Plums with yellowish fruit, but that was it. Facebook posts hint that there are fruiting plums south and east of wichita, so we might run some county roads in the Flint Hills next weekend.

That used to be a favorite of mine. Picking wild plums. Seems like the farmers disc more and spray more of the ditch every year. Getting harder to find.
Foraged from my closet lol. I've started growing oyster mushrooms in grow bags.

I’m curious what type of climate you store them at? Also what’s your general location. It’s hard here to maintain humidity in the high desert.

Stopped by my local wild plum patch today and picked as much as I could pile into my impromptu shirt pouch. They were perfectly ripe and would fall off the branch if you bumped it. Careful picking.
Typically I only grab a few to snack on, but decided to grab more than that today, as they were only going to be good for another couple days.
Love this little things.

A store near me makes delicious prickly pear ice cream. Anyone have any experience or tips harvesting it . Definitely want to try it out

Im brand new getting into foraging and Im being addicted after how good everything has tasted.

Today I found a bunch of oysters and about to get them cleaned up and into the dehydrator.

Some of them are a bit older/turning a slight bit brown already. Any advise on the flavor/quality difference? Should I only keep the pure white ones?

No pictures but found some shaggy many mushrooms the other day and breaded and deep fried them. So good!

I just don’t like the texture of the older ones. Usual put them in stir fry, occasionally grill them.
