Wondering what you guys like to use in cooler seasons to start a fire?

In the past, I’ve used pyro putty but haven’t fallen in love with it.

This year I’m considering either Trioxane or Hexamine (Esbit Tablets).

I got a couple big cans of pyro putty on pro form years ago and have barely made a dent in them. I’ll probably be using that stuff till I die. It has done me great but there is definitely an art to the stuff.

Petroleum jelly cotton balls generally. I also keep a couple indidually wrapped fire starter cubes in my pack for emergency. I don’t remember the brand.

Matches in a water proof bag in my pocket along with the paper to scratch to light them and then just find some dry leaves and grass and make a fire now granted I do have a fire lighty thing from Walmart but you would have better luck with a rock and stick then that thing

You can cheat with Vaseline and cotton balls. I only have a few mastered skills.
1) chopping wood. Not with a maul and wedge or some stupid log splitter, I mean a real axe splitting wood. My dad sold firewood for a living. We sold over 300 cords of wood a year. All hand split, and I was the splitter. my dad was on the saw. So I have split well over 3000 cords of wood
2) lighting above said wood on fire. Growing up we only had wood stove for cooking and heating.

If you get lost in the woods with me you may starve but you'll never be cold.

Another vote for vasy and cotton balls (or dryer lint) in a film canister 👍🏻
Though I did get a bag of fire plugs (Bigfoot Bushcraft) as my SAR white ele gift last year. Seemed to work 🤷‍♂️

Another vote for cotton balls impregnated with Vaseline, just works. Trioxane tabs also work extremely well, worth keeping a couple for an emergency
Yes, I agree with this because I’ve had some issues in weather when it’s snowing.

Sawdust mixed with melted parafin wax - pour it into mini paper muffin cups or egg cartons. Easy to light - burns long enough to really get damp wood off and running.

Alpine01 ......Chainsaw dust/parafin wax is also waterproof, very important.

keakakea.......I cut my strips longer and tapered to a point for easier starting.

Found this meme for those who can’t start a natural fire.
lol. Let it be publicly known that I have no problem starting a fire. Just when it’s snowing really hard and the wood is wet. I just want something that’s going to last when starting it.
