Went for a hike yesterday with the fam. 4k in 4 miles up to a lake that I've heard had some golden trout (pretty rare for WA). Bugs were horrible and we almost turned around but finally got above them. While I was pounding the lake shore for what appeared to be about 12 total fish in the lake, of which I think I caught the smallest (no pic, but extremely pretty) also my first golden. My wife and kids got to check this thing out while it ran by them. It was well under a 100 yards. I'm super jealous that I didn't get to see it.

The Hoary Marmot can attain a size of roughly 30 inches long and at the very top end, like Andre the Giant top end, 30 pounds.

This looks like a big-assed marmot to me.
That makes more sense. The length of the tail is throwing me off.

Head & Body shapes indicate marmot.

Anyone who says otherwise best be prepared for an internet donnybrook. Bring your lunch!

It's crazy to think that the most likely suspects either make this a mundane, not even worthy of mentioning, encounter. Or something you end up telling your grandkids about.

Looks like a horry marmot to me. Neck isn't long enough and legs are too short to be a wolverine. They can have that silver/black saddle on them as well. I've seen probably 30 wolverines in the mountains, and the thing that I always notice first is how black and long legs they have for their body. The leg/body proportion is much like a gog. Here is hungry pack eating a ewe sheep they killed.
