"English" bird names, "Offensive or Exclusionary" to change.

Kit Carson Peak in Colorado to be renamed.

A disgusting American joins our disgusting John Muir...

I agree with changing names that hold racial slurs, i.e. "nigger", etc though not a fan of the modern apologist era where John Muir, Kit Carson, etc are not recognized for the quality historical aspects they brought to life.

I acknowledge the trail of tears is a disgusting portion of our HISTORY. Though this is along the lines to say, pull Malcolm X statue, remove any named Commanche tribe member(s) or the tribal name use for their ruthless slaughter of American settlers and slavery of white girls, etc...

Apologists for the loss...

Kit Carson <> John Muir... just saying

Muir didn't butcher women and children

He didn't "butcher" anyone. Nice play on words. He did burn their crops when they refused to leave and forced them to walk the "trail of tears", as notoriously defined. The U.S. Military had it's moments of glory and gloom - Still does. At the time, He was ordered to move them and they refused. Right or wrong...

edit - A good synopsis:

Sacremento massacre

Kit, Lord Gore… there are some folks that don’t need things named after them.

I think you have a better argument with keeping things named for folks like Muir if you’re willing to call a spade a spade.

As retarded as stating we should rename Commanche, MT, TX, OK, and CO....

The legitimate buttering, cutting tongues, burning alive settlers...

I hold no concerns hiking a ridge named after the most notorious tribal butchers of American history... You?
I tend to think folks that get their panties in a wad about name changes are as ridiculous as those who want to change everything.

Make everything elk mountain, maybe that would make it less appealing for the city folks to take their weird little photos at the top with their signs.

Also it make more sense to compare to Quanah Parker an individual rather than Comanche a entire people.

I don't think that @AvidIndoorsman is suggesting that we can't have a place named "American River" or "American Ridge" which would be the equivalent to what you're arguing.

Plus…

On the one hand I think having names for dubious of infamous folks is good, oh yeah that’s the Gore Range, he was a dick. Forever starting conversations about their misdeeds.

On the other hand if it’s about honoring folks then yeah not die in Kit Carson give them that one… Muir sure.

End of the day though it’s all a bunch of fussin’

I love it when folks try to get butt hurt about what white settlers and the military of the day did without having reference to what the reality of Indian culture was......war, brutality, slavery, and savagery in their own right BEFORE and absent any western influence. The truth of what happened to Indians in the New World is that they were far behind technologically and in much smaller numbers than their opponents. Their intent was no more "pure" than anyone else, they were just at a huge disadvantage. Why were they so far behind folks from other parts of the world, including in warfare and weapons? Very hard to say. The story of the world is one of conquest, war, and exploitation. THAT IS human nature to varying degrees and ALL cultures have wins and losses. Demonizing and trying to erase victors because, in much removed time frames, their actions seem horrific is comically ignorant. Teach, don't ignore and as much as it bothers some ....to the victors DO go the spoils.

Not following

I suppose what I am sharing in relation to the use beyond a person's name, "Chief" is a common word within most Native tribal hierarchy. Not a specific name, nor is it adverse - yet, they demand the KC Chiefs change their name.

Redskins... Ok, I can see the Native American concern though Chiefs - Is another example of bird names that hold a big fat ?...

As compared to getting butt hurt about a bird name they have never heard of for a bird they have never seen?
I find it disappointing we must change names of birds for the reasons noted in the OP link.

I find it offensive that Smithsonian had to pull the Theodore Roosevelt Statue from their public area due to demands to tear it down...

I find the extremes dictate for the norm such as the demands shared above for the Kansas City Chiefs to change their name. "Chief" is not a derogatory term.

Add on, I find it ridiculous the Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite had to change their name to the Yosemite Lodge...
"There once was a tribe of Native Americans that settled in the beautiful valley they had named “Ahwahnee”. After seeing the unique valley with its very distinctive mountains one can understand why they called the area “place of the gaping mouth.” This one tribe had occupied the valley for so long that ancestral stories recall a time when the valley once had a dazzling lake that covered most of the valley."

It's as much the ridiculousness of renaming/removing/attempting to rewrite, as it's ridiculous that 'we'... 'allow'... it.

Worldproof your child, don't childproof the world. That's part of why we're in this post-op, DEI board position lalaland catering to whiners, losers and freaks quite literally tearing down American history.

oh well....guess we can all agree we should rename the Cheyenne mountain to the Lloyd Austin mountain.........

....cause ain't no one gonna see the work.....

Next, Mount Rushmore... I jest.

Oops... Wait, just reviewed to make sure the humor would hold. Nope Souix Tribe Chairman shared the following,
"Nothing stands as a greater reminder to the Great Sioux Nation of a country that cannot keep a promise or treaty than the faces carved into our sacred land on what the United States calls Mount Rushmore."

Continue further...

Oglala Sioux President Julian Bear Runner said last week that he also believed the monument should be removed, calling it "a great sign of disrespect."

But hey, we'll find HT members who don't give a rats ass... Or better yet, apologize and agree with the removal of Mount Rushmore.

Hey though, a few HT members also claim people shouldn't be concerned over such movements and the fuel such leadership prompts. Shhh... Don't remind them the concerns they promote for Trump as President.
It never ends for apologists.

Those rascals, just glad we have you to tell us what’s what

If you don't see the state of ridiculousness we are in, I can post pictures of a really, really shitty-ly authored book (objectively, outside the actual concept of the book itself) and an equally shittiy indoctrination concept that a illinois elementary school district thought was a good idea for a child's book.

Stamped by the schools librarian "property of..." roller. Came in a set of garage sale books we picked up this year.

Something Trash bash or something like that if you want to google it in the meantime. Sponsored by you, the local Illinois tax payer.

Give it time, your kids aren't in school yet. Lemme know when your kids music teacher teaches the class "you put your hands in your pants and do the hootchie-cootchie dance". A God damn kindergarten music class.

Honestly, minus the advanced civility of rez Indians compared to their counterparts in other regions of the world-say Palestinians/ etc, it's a common theme amongst losers of battle.

You lost. We won. Hence we have the spoils. Yall got some land, scraps, but you lost, you don't get the right to make demands.....

....and yet, sans casinos, drugs and poachin.....traditional hunting, I haven't witnessed much contributions to modern society other than complaints from the losing side, criminal mischief and drug addictions.

I'm sure that's white man's fault too. Meh, here's a blanket, wipe them tears.
