I tend to think folks that get their panties in a wad about name changes are as ridiculous as those who want to change everything.

Make everything elk mountain, maybe that would make it less appealing for the city folks to take their weird little photos at the top with their signs.

Also it make more sense to compare to Quanah Parker an individual rather than Comanche a entire people.

I love it when folks try to get butt hurt about what white settlers and the military of the day did without having reference to what the reality of Indian culture was......war, brutality, slavery, and savagery in their own right BEFORE and absent any western influence. The truth of what happened to Indians in the New World is that they were far behind technologically and in much smaller numbers than their opponents. Their intent was no more "pure" than anyone else, they were just at a huge disadvantage. Why were they so far behind folks from other parts of the world, including in warfare and weapons? Very hard to say. The story of the world is one of conquest, war, and exploitation. THAT IS human nature to varying degrees and ALL cultures have wins and losses. Demonizing and trying to erase victors because, in much removed time frames, their actions seem horrific is comically ignorant. Teach, don't ignore and as much as it bothers some ....to the victors DO go the spoils.

I suppose what I am sharing in relation to the use beyond a person's name, "Chief" is a common word within most Native tribal hierarchy. Not a specific name, nor is it adverse - yet, they demand the KC Chiefs change their name.

I find it offensive that Smithsonian had to pull the Theodore Roosevelt Statue from their public area due to demands to tear it down...

I find the extremes dictate for the norm such as the demands shared above for the Kansas City Chiefs to change their name. "Chief" is not a derogatory term.

Add on, I find it ridiculous the Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite had to change their name to the Yosemite Lodge...

Honestly, minus the advanced civility of rez Indians compared to their counterparts in other regions of the world-say Palestinians/ etc, it's a common theme amongst losers of battle.
