No supplemental feeding occurred this winter on the refuge. IIRC I don't think they fed at any of the 21 feedgrounds this winter. I believe the next step is for WGFD to reduce the Jackson herd population objective.

With the distance some of those elk come from, CWD on the refuge could affect a pretty big area.

Bound to happen at some point. Unfortunately, I think the hayday of the Jackson elk herd is over and populations will go down from here. Something needs to be done about the supplemental feeding system, but we'll see what political headwinds allow...

With the distance some of those elk come from, CWD on the refuge could affect a pretty big area.

I know of elk that were tagged on the refuge being killed in the north end of Paradise Valley in MT.
I have seen at least twice where early snows forced the elk to migrate north because they were unable to go south.

This is documented fact.
