It doesn't matter out there. They are on a irrigated pivot on private land. There is no need for a lead cow bc they will likely get chased back onto private ranch when they attempt to leave. We are living in the glory days of private land elk hunting. Congratulations Shapnel way to go.The lead cow is the repository of generations of knowledge. Killing her eliminates that and hurts the herds ability to navigate migration routes. She also has a deep knowledge of food and water resources that younger members don't have... not shooting the lead cow should be elk hunting 101, but apparently it isn't.
