Drought for the west

Desperately in need of measurable rains in SW NM & AZ.
Ground is bone dry and no grasses or weeds growing. Rivers and streams a trickle, if not dry.
Very bad.
Elk suffering and showing ribs. Cows about to drop or have aborted. No feed for milk.
Hundreds of thousands of acres of trees dead or dying.

Might get some Mon/Tues......a month early.
It will be bad if monsoons are late or fail to appear.

NE Wyoming looks like junk, but it seems there is an abnormaly high amount of large antelope around. If they can find something to eat this summer it should be a good year to have an antelope tag.

Where specifically? I was up in the Black Hills in late April early May, didn't look too bad. Seemed like South of the Black Hills looked a lot worse to me.

Around Laramie, we have had very timely rains/snow that has no doubt helped significantly, really green right now.

It will be a good year to be a wildfire in most of the west. A lot of Nevada has had record low snowpack levels.

Well over a million acres burned in Oregon in the last two weeks with most of those fires still not under control. Add the drought, things are getting worrisome on the east side. Both my creeks are dry, one always drys up in mid September, I’ve never seen both dry. Going to town today to buy 500’ feet of garden hose so I can continue rotating my steers on pasture. Thankful we hav’nt had our normal lightning storms since the one that got all these fires going.

The east side of the Cascades hasn't seen meaningful rain in 6 wks. Your E Oregon fires are huge and starting to burn into each other. The Big Grass fire is now in Idaho and not slowing. Wishing your area some good fortune. August is going to be interesting. The only good news is that the SW US has seen some good monsoonal flow.

Monsoon has fired up in Colorado and really dampened the fire activity. Sounds like it's predicted to generally hold through August/September.

Thank God.

But it's having essentially zero impact on the overall drought situation so far and that probably won't change too much. But it doesn't hurt.

The "saving grace" is that it's actually been a little cooler than normal here
