Dogs are Hunting Partners - Let's see 'em

About 3 weeks ago, this dumbass got dragged to the vet for some excessive liquid discharge from the aft blowhole. In the course of getting a work up, the doc found what we thought was a mass on her left kidney. The x-ray looked pretty damning. We were bracing for the worst. A week ago, I took her downstate to a specialist and his ultrasound and work up came back different - the left kidney was enlarged but he couldn't find a right kidney. Obviously, that was troubling as we were thinking that we'd be in for a nephrectomy - which can only happen when there are two kidneys, for obvious reasons.

Yesterday, I took her down to Pontiac to hit another specialist who would have performed the surgery if necessary. 4 hours down, 6 hours waiting and 4 hours back. Turns out she doesn't have cancer, just born with one kidney which has enlarged to do the duty of 2. So I'm out $5K for a dog that's fine, just has some #@)(*%* up guts.On the plus side, I got serenaded by either a church group or a business lunch when 6 lovely ladies broke out into "Thank you for being a friend." So that was nice.

Did you ever come home to find her unconscious in a tub of ice? Just askin’ 😜.

Seriously, though, glad she’s OK Ben.

Bitch sold it for more pupperonis.

Apparently she was born without. No renal artery at all per the CT scan.

She better be fine. Between this and the two tplo surgeries in late 24 she's in deficit on birds.

Piper turns seven this month. She's a Tennessee Treeing Brindle Hound and embodies the dichotomy of canine companionship: She's 35 pounds of sheer terror for squirrels, but will tolerate without complaint myriad torments from our three children. We're lucky to have her in our family. Good girl.
