GOHUNT - Filter and find hunts like never before

Different guns for big game.

At one time I had the same idea as everyone else that I should have (and deserved) a dedicated rifle for every species I was going to hunt. So I went out and bought a .257 Wby, .30-06, .270, 7 Rem Mag, .300 Wby and a .375 H&H. After spending thousands of dollars, if finally had to admit to myself that I really, really like guns and what I was doing all along was simply "investing" in a collection. The end result was that I now own dozens of guns, but only really use a couple of them when hunting.
The 7mm has nothing more to prove to me, so maybe this year I might start using the .300 Wby more. But I know that if I miss just ONE shot, I'll go back to the 7.

I have 270 for deer and 300 win mag for elk. I used to use 270 for everyting but got a hankerin for a new gun so bought the 300 mag.

I use a 280 Rem for Elk, using a 140 grain tripple shock.
.220 swift for coyotes, and some antelope.
.223 wssm for coyotes, and what ever, (hope to do a wolf).
most of my deer go down with old bear razorheads.Haven't rifled a deer in a long, long time.
Killed my biggest elk with the lowely .308 win, along with a bunch of others.

.30-06, .243Win, .375 H&H. I like the .243 for Deer and Lopes, but I did use it on a bear once and it did the job. The .30-06 for just about everything and the .375 when I want a sore shoulder. I like my .17 for the little critters.

Strange thing, I don't even own a .308...

...figured you only used vine snares & flint spears.:D

Right now I use my .338 Win for all big game and my 223AI for the smaller stuff. I've been known to dig Dad's 30-06 out for a pronghorn hunt now and then. Eventually I'll add something a bit lighter than the 338 as umph isn't needed on the smaller critters and packing hella far isn't fun if the power isn't needed as it weighs 9.5#.

the last few years i used my 300WM and my .270 What else do you really need if you have a big gun that is capable of shooting 180 down to 150 grains

guilty....little critters, 223, medium critters 6.5x55, bigger critters 338 win mag (it was a gift from my dad), and flying critters, I shoot a scattergun..

For Ohio deer

.50 cal ML (350 maxi ball i think)
20 gauge (slug)
12 gauge rifled barrel (sabot)

Rifles are not allowed in Ohio

Out of state where legal deer

30-06 (165/180)
6.5x55 (140) also will use this on a coyote if given a chance:D

For tree rats and such...shotguns and 22 LR (Marlin 60)
