Dallas/Fort Worth eats?

Oh darn, they don't seem to be available in October. Guess I'll just save my money for something else. Like maybe 2 sets of tires for my car! Sheesh! You high rollers are gonna have to cheapen up if you want to hang with me! I'm fine with doing a Hilton or Hyatt now and then but I'm not interested in paying THAT MUCH for one night! 😲
"The Red River Breaks"?
Now you're in my stomping grounds.
There is a German bakery in Muenster that sells what has to be THE best strudel in the country!
If you lived closer, there is also a butcher shop where you can buy beef by the half and have it cut to order. Melt in your mouth!

Otto, where are you located? Actually have some family with that last name near Muenster.
Spouse is from that part of the state.

I'm north of the River over near Randlett.
Did a lot of traveling between Ringgold and back towards Gainesville and Denton.
My first taste of deer hunting OK was right down on Red River.
Actually within a couple of miles of where they started filming "Hillbilly Handfishin'".
Between all the ag crops and bunk feeders, they grow some awesome deer over here! 😉
Actually know a couple who take turns shooting "monster" bucks out of her dad's creep feed bunks!

It was his turn last fall! LOL!

Lots of good places and ideas brought up here. Thanks everyone! Still have more research to do for things along the way getting to Dallas. Wifey doesn't want to "just drive and drive" without seeing things. Guess we'll be leaving home a couple days earlier than expected. Need to look at Oklahoma for a couple of things to make her happy!

"Okie" dokie!
For a start, a route through Okla?
Not just "down IH35" I'm hoping.

44 through Missouri, into Tulsa and Ok. City then 35 south. Can't run around EVERYWHERE! ;)
LMBO! You got that right!
I'm much more familiar with Texas than OK, even though I live in OK!

First thing that comes to mind is in Davis, OK. That's the "Arbuckle Wilderness". It's an exotic, free roaming, animal "park".

In OKC, they have "Brick Town".
It's an old, commercial section (tanneries, rendering plants, slaughter houses) of downtown OKC that has been converted to more "touristy" pursuits.

I'll see what else I can dig up.

ps - stay away from the casinos! 😜!

My hometown (TMS in backyard).. Nearby off 35 is a BBQ joint called "407" BBQ in Argyle. Check them out for a local option. Pecan Lodge is great, but in Dallas... Heim in Ft Worth is just as good and have 2 locations closer. Mexican is all over the place and many great options. Los Molcajetes is unsuspectedly great. Fancy steak theres nothing better than Capital Grille, but be prepared to pay! Have fun on your trip!

Edit: When/If you head east, the BBQ stop you must take is Smoke Sessions in Royse City, used to be under the radar but I think the gig is up. Nothing sucks with them and they stuff their own sausages. Havent been to their new place but like many, they came from humble beginnings selling BBQ out of a trailer

Boy, I'll tell you Ft. Worth folks you can take this town and, um, keep it! How the hell do you drive in this nightmare? 😳 I don't usually get frazzled in traffic but this place is crazy. Can't wait to get out of here. Had a couple Kolaches at Buc'ees last night. Not bad, too much bread for the wife. Had the beef ribs at Riskee's(?) in the Stockyards for lunch today. Stopped at 8 ribs cause the wife was ready to go! Not sure what we're going to do for food tomorrow with the traffic nightmare we have. All day tomorrow to kill time before the race on Sunday.

Pre and Post race traffic. After that Fort Worth is no where near as bad a Dallas, Houston or Austin. Or El Paso when the interstate is blocked.

Traffic wasn't all that bad. It was the construction nightmare, emphasis on NIGHTMARE, going on COMBINED with traffic along with a first-timer driving around. Even escaping town Monday morning heading to Texarkana seemed like the city kept on going, and going...

The best thing about the Dallas area is that anywhere you look there is a wide variety of food. Asian, sushi, Indian, BBQ...anything you want. If sushi is your thing there is a little place in Irving that has great food and is about as cheap as you can get for sushi. Now, it's been a few years, but it used to be a mom and pop place that the dad cooked and the daughter handled the cash register and waiting tables. You used to be able to get a teriyaki bowl and assorted sushi with a drink for less than 15 bucks. The name was Maki Boy. Really it's the only thing I miss about Dallas.
