There was an episode of Wildgame Nation where Craig Morgan shot and killed an antelope at like 86 yards with a crossbow
He is an idiot no doubt. That arrow bounced into the antelope off the ground as well. My brother who lives in Bozeman ran across him last fall. He was setting up a fake elk camp in the NF as was actually staying in a lodge. Just making it look good for TV. My bro didn't even know who he was and Mr Morgan kept asking him if he had heard of the song "redneck yacht club" or any of his other hits.
Pretty sure the guy who shot the big sheep(auction tag i believe) in Mt this year used a regular vertical bow to shoot about that same distance. It's not just the crossbow guys who are shooiting farther than they should. Regualr archery guys, muzzleloader, and we all know there are way more rifle shots taken that are far from most peoples effective range. If you have a cds dial scope just dial up long distance and let her rip seems to be the new fad. That or just follow the lines in the scope that tell you where to hold out to 800 or so. I've gotta think the extra long crossbow shots make up a very small % of the shots past effective range that are taken each year.
