Colorado Secondary Draw 2025

I decided to put in for the secondary draw for the first time ever! I drew a muzzleloader elk tag in the primary draw and decided to apply for deer and bear muzzleloader tags in the same unit as my elk tag. There’s only one deer tag and one bear tag available. I know youth have priority and it’s a long shot, but thought it was worth the $22 in app fees.

So was it a waste of money? Am I allowed to have multiple tags if I drat? I believe I can, but second guessing myself now 🤣.

Also, why can’t Colorado pull off the primary draw in this short a timeframe? Supposedly they will post results in 7 days (July 7).

Assuming you’re over 17, I think it’ll be a total waste of money in the secondary draw if there are so few tags available. 😊 Just the facts of the matter.

Yes, you’re allowed to have deer, elk and bear tags concurrently. You might have some luck picking up one or more of those as a leftover, but not in the secondary draw

Sounds like good advice. Oh well, experience is the best teacher.

Low chance but there's always a possibility. There really aren't as many tagless youth as people make it seem.

Looking over the last few years of recaps, less than a third of the available tags actually end up going to youth hunters so there's no reason not to try.

Even almost all of the cow tags go to youth
I draw cow elk tags (B tag) every year as a resident in the secondary draw. I do this as a companion tag to my first choice deer tag from the primary draw. Depends on the unit you are targeting. In these cases I am carrying a deer tag, an elk tag, and a bear tag that is good for 1st - 4th rifle. Assuming my secondary tags hit, I will be hunting 1st - 4th rifle for either elk or deer. Should be a fun October/November.

Last year adults drew 6,299 elk tags in the secondary draw and youth drew 1,716.
Adults drew 2,907 deer tags in the secondary, and youth drew 1,347.

What gets some folks worked up is that the most desirable tags go to youth.

I put in for the secondary draw this year too. Never have bofore but there was a couple tags available in an area where I know where to start looking lol. Fingers crossed, we shall see.

But returned tags will be automatically reissued to the next in line.
Im hoping the auto-reissue is unpopular because it could use your points on any first choice tag up to 2 weeks prior to the season.
