Three of my buddies from college and I are planning to chase elk for the first time this year in Colorado. We've decided on unit 45 due to having some insider knowledge of the area. That being said, you can never really learn too much about an area or the animals that live there before making the trip. We'll be going for 2nd rifle. We've been pouring over maps and crossing out areas. The podcast about elk hunting strategy has been a huge help with that. The main area that we have focused on is the western side of the unit which is mostly the Holy Cross Wilderness. Looking there because of the lack of roads and harder access. None of us have any elk hunting experience. We're all under 30 and willing to hunt hard and put in the miles. Any info is appreciated!
