cheap car camping tent search

My sister has asked me with finding a cheap car camping tent that can weather "Texas Turdfloater" storms. Apparently the only requirements are 4-person tent, weatherproof, and come in around $150. Brand and weight are not an issue. I told her I wasn't aware of such and told her if she were willing to double her budget I could get her into a really good tent.

Anyone have some suggestions?

There was a dirt cheap Coleman 6 person at REI outlet this weekend.

You gave her good advice. There is no such thing as cheap and water proof in a tent.

I have one of these (Kelty Yellowstone 4) in an older model and use it for car camping every once in a while. Actually, it sheds rain like a champ, but could use another treatment of nikwax.

Remind her that tent sizing generally is only accurate if you REALLY like your tent mates, OR several of the campers are kids.

Thanks guys, this 4 person tent is for 2 plus stuff. Knowing how she packs for our forced family fun in the summer there is more than a fully stocked pickup for a weekend camp out.
