Blue 24...Blue 24.. HIKE HIKE !!!

205. (Sheep shape after coming out of the hills for my sheep was 194, way to low for me :D)

I was about 237 in December. Jan 1st I hit the scales at 233. This morning at the Gym I was 220. I really haven't changed eating yet but March 1st is "D" day. I'm not going crazy then, but I am switching my lunch habits and switching to Diet coke if that helps...... *Sigh*

Well.. It's still early to say if I'm going to be ready.... I need to dump a few more pounds and this summer will hit the swimming a little more as well.

I'm only running about a 9+ minute mile (This morning went 40 minutes at 4.4 miles) I would like to run 1 hour at an 8 minute mile. Still out of my league right now...... Working on it though :)

Have you set your Goal yet ? (I'm still working on mine... Haven't swam yet this year)

.5 mile swim = ?
14 mile Bike = ?
3 mile run = ?

My goal is to finish and still live... :D

Haven't set any goals yet. If I can, I'll try to look up my past pathetic times.

Here's the times from 2004 and my first go around:

Swim: 20:51
T1: 8:30
Bike: 1:04:32
T2: 3:34
Run: 45:38

Total: 2:23:04

Results from 2006:

Swim: 29:01
T1: 11:32
Bike: 43:07
T2: na
Run: 40:00

Total: 2:03:41

So I guess that's a long way of saying that I want to beat the best times from each category and break 2 hours this year. I was surprised how much slower my swim time was in '06, but then again I didn't really swim much leading up to that event.

I haven't tested anything out but was hoping to hit :

Swim: 25
T1: 5
Bike: 55
T2: 3
Run: 30

For an Ending time of 1:58

I based those numbers off of 2 other friends that did it last year. they hit the 2:05 mark(ish). They are gonig to do it again this year as well. If I'm at the 2Hr mark I would be happy.

Question: Are you wearing a Wetsuit ? If so, what kind ? Also, do you have a Street bike ? And if so, what did you pay for it ?

Yeah, I'll be wearing a wetsuit, they REALLY help out on flotation. I don't really like mine as it's not quite a triathalon suit and is a two piece. I would much rather have a 1 piece. But, then again there's not too many options for wetsuits for guys 5'10" and nearly 300#. I can't remember the name and am too lazy to dig it out to see. Yes I do have a road bike and it makes a world of diffrence. You can see from my posted times that my bike time improved greatly between the two races and I think a lot of that was due to a change in bikes. I ride a Giant, as they were one of the few makers that had a frame stout enough for my big arse, and it ran close to $2K a few years ago. If you don't want to buy one, alot of the better bike shops will rent you one for the day.

2k ? Holey Crapping Bucks !!!! YAh, My plan was to rent one. Now I'm wondering what a Nike will cost to Rent !!! Gesh !!!

I might buy a wetsuit though. Been looking into it. It will also be good on float trips and water skiing.

Like alot of things, the price may or may not be worth it to you. You could easily get into a good road bike for less than half of that. I splurged on a few things like carbon fiber frame and forks, etc. Just make sure the frame and seat fit you; if not you butt and knees will regret it on the run...

I think my wetsuit was $160. Heck, that's probably only a few hours of work for you... :D

Well... If you look into the investing section, @ my $1.96 a day profit.... I could afford a wetsuit in 82 days ;)

I went to the gym for the first time swimming today. I did make it accross the pool once before almost drowning from being tiered. thats 25 yards. 5280ft in a mile. 2640; in a 1/2 mile; 880 yards in a 1/2 mile; 25yards in a pool length; 35.2 laps.......... 1/35.2 isn't bad for the first day, is it ;) :p Maybe I should buy the wetsuit and train in it so don't drown :p

Moosie, maybe look into this wet suit.
anyone wanna bet who will finish first out of Pointer and Moosie?
I'll put $20 on pan man.

JB, that would be a fine alternative. I might wear somethnig like that just for show. I was actually going to have a MC'D's burger at each T (transition) jsut forthe Photo Op.... I could see me get handed a McD's choco shake a quarter mile before the finish and run/roll through the finish holding it up !!!!

I appreciate the $20 vote of confidence. (I'm not sure anyone will bet against you ? MAybe everyone will, hell I don't know.) I think I can take 1-pointer as well..... but, he has done 2 of these and I'm new. One of my biggest fears is Missing a turn or somethnig like that and ending up lost. I can see the headlines now "Fat man, running a triathlon takes wrong turn and ends up in wilderness lost for 27 days...."

the other thought is I have a HUFFY bike with 2 speeds, "stop" and "GO". I don't have any of these fandangled $2,000, A$$ forming, Synthitic Spoke having Road bikes. Geshhhh, I have a lot to do and prep for :)

I have had to clear out my Pm box twice today with people wanting to take the bet. Hell, One was from your wife.

Holy crap, pointer! Are you stopping to read the newspaper and brush your teeth during T1? :D :D

Moosie, if you're serious about this you should consider getting a heart rate monitor and learning to use it effectively. Good chance you will find that you are overtraining...

Nope, I'm trying to catch my breath and wedge my fat a$$ out of my wet suit. I look enough like the Michelin Man in the thing the 'strippers' don't even offer...

I got $20 on Moosie...

I doubt that.....

But my heart is a bit different. When I start running , about 2 minutes into it My rate hits 170+ My heart shoots up hgher from there. I also have a Heart Murmer, or did when I was younger. It always keeps ticking. So I don't know ?!??!

I do want to get some better shoes though. My feet hurt in Mile 2 with the pink slippers I wear ;)

Holy chrrrrrrist! Is this on a treadmill with a hot chick working out in front of you? :D Sounds like you are overtraining to me. 170 has got to be over your anaerobic threshold... not exactly where you should be training for the time being. Read this...
