Thought I’d share a little story about a special hike I’m doing this weekend. My uncle was a very important person in my life, almost more like a father to me. He passed away this spring. Tom spent his whole life guiding in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, ever since the early 70’s. He was quite the mountain man, and some of his stories from the wilderness are simply incredible. Shortly before he passed he told me of a few of his favorite places in the Bob. So I’m going on a long hike to experience a couple of those places for myself and to scatter some of his ashes there. It’s been a lot of years since I’ve done any real serious backpacking, so that part will be a challenge, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’m driving up to my Aunt’s house this evening and then to the trailhead first thing tomorrow morning. I should be back out by Monday afternoon, hopefully I’ll have some great photos and stories to share.

I’m sorry for your loss. A great way to honor his memory.

Looks like a character, I bet he had some incredible stories after spending that much time in The Bob.

Sorry for your loss. Enjoy your time out there.

Thanks. “A character” is putting it mildly, lol!!

It was a great trip and I’m glad I got to experience it. The views from that peak were amazing when the clouds parted enough to see. The first day was almost 4000’ of elevation gain in less than 8 miles. As usual the cell phone photos really don’t do it justice.

Last summer we embarked on a backpack trek through the Bob to honor wife's Uncle Jim who had worked at Gates Park summer of 1942, prior to service to our country in the Navy during WWII. Uncle Jim had passed away at age 100. The ranger at Gates Park was a history buff, who allowed us to post a photo and info in the very cabin Uncle Jim worked out of in 1942. Good on you, Bhoesl, for honoring your uncle in such an appropriate way.
