Bankruptcies of Canadian Guides and Outfitters?

wasn't it discussed a while back that outfitters overextended their reach and through lobbying made it so it was difficult for residents to access the best hunting grounds and impossible in some provinces for nonresidents to hunt without an outfitter? I don't know the details but it sounded like the system turned much of Canada into a pay-to-play league for residents and nonresidents alike

Any exemptions for those providing proof of receiving both doses of vaccine? Just curious.
Nothing about vaccines and you won't see anything about access/vaccines for quite some time. We are WAAAYYYYY behind the curve in terms of vaccination. Not only that, but it seems like you can still carry COVID even if you are vaccinated, so the 14 day isolation might stand for quite some time. This probably means that Canada will not re-open the border until we have reached "herd immunity" through vaccination. Right now, the gov't is forecasting that this will not happen before Sept, the biggest issue right now is the lack of vaccine doses coming into Canada but deliveries are ramping up... As a reference, only 0.81% of the population has received both doses as of last Friday. Time will tell!

Just found this today.....For travellers arriving to Canada by land, as of February 15, 2021, all travellers, with some exceptions, will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test result taken in the United States within 72 hours of pre-arrival, or a positive test taken 14 to 90 days prior to arrival. In addition, as of February 22, 2021, travellers entering Canada at the land border will be required to take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival as well as toward the end of their 14-day quarantine.
This is not what I'm hearing from the govt. Airline passengers arriving into Canada will be tested at the airport and required to book into a designated hotel for three days till test results are back (approx $500/night + cost of test). As far as I know similar land crossing restrictions are still up in the air (pun intended). These restrictions apparently mimic what's being enforced in England (according to my South Africa PH whose mother works there).

No arguement here. I am essentially a dual citizen so legally entitled to cross both ways. However, coming back I was required to quarantine at home, and yes the authorities did check in. Could you afford to miss work for two more weeks after coming home? I have also just learned the newest restrictions for returning Canadians ONLY applies to those entering through airports. Canadians driving across will not be tested at the border and impounded in designated motels awaiting test results (+ paying $2K to cover expenses). I think that is BS. Should be same no matter what mode of transportation. Fortunately there are few Canadians willing to fly south into the land of massive COVID and chaotic inconsistent response. You are correct in that Trump allowed any Canadians into the country via plane... but NOT in vehicles. Makes no sense at all which is not surprising. Canadian news network asked for an explanation from Trump administration but got no response (what answer could they give?). Biden put a stop to that. Vehicle or plane entry requires two week quarantine upon arrival. But who enforces it? Enter the Twilight Zone! Trudeau decided to take that difficult responsibility away from local authorities (much to their relief I'm sure). I suppose it is more doable for fed administration of this policy at the three designated airport entry points. I guess he could simply make just a handful of vehicle entry points and do the same testing and impoundment. Apparently it is being discussed as I write this. Possibly a significant inconvenience for the few returning Canadian American snowbirds who foolishly drove their motorhomes south during a pandemic. Well, cry me a river!

These onerous new restrictions are meant to curb the spread of foreign variants into Canada. Or at least slow them until vaccines can catch up. Makes sense. The variants are already in two places in Canada (from irresponsible travelers) but govt is trying to make sure more isn't imported while trying to put a lid on what's here.
Do you think the stop on the XL Keystone pipeline has any influence on Canada's policy towards US citizens entering into Canada?

The tour companies up here in Alaska are starting to look for Alaskans willing to fly down to Seattle and drive back their rental RVs for the summer tourism season....

No effect. US citizens have been blocked from entry since last spring before the pipeline was killed. America's response to the pandemic has been haphazard at best. That's been the key factor. And now the variants are speeding up transmission. Canada is trying to curb visitation for health reasons.

I would be surprised if the Alaska highway isn't closed by tourist season. As far as I know Americans can still travel it to Alaska at present but if they deviate from the highway they're looking at a very steep fine and escort to the nearest crossing.

Thanks. We are not driving into Canada anytime soon.
I think Alaskans can drive up from the lower-48 if Alaska is their primary residence.
The Canadian government currently recognizes the following travel as essential:
  • To college (with documentation and no escort)
  • To a primary residence (with evidence of residency)
  • To a new job (with proof of employment)
  • Military deployment (with orders listing dependents if applicable)

Lol our current gov't is ecstatic about Keystone XL dying. They don't care much for the impact on jobs and economy it will have.

I see on the news tonight there is now considerable concern the New York COVID variant will not be affected by vaccines. That will throw a new wrinkle in things! Ugh!

Similar to where I live, England, but only applies to countries on our Red list, USA and Canada aren't on our list, but otherwise they have to quarantine for 10 days in a hotel at over $2400 for the duration of the quarantine stay.
Cheers

Richard: Does the quarantine apply to passengers from South Africa who are merely laid over waiting for a connecting flight or just passengers ending at GB? Still a glimmer of hope I'll be hunting SA again this summer.

Honestly, I can't understand how the US escaped Britain's Red List. It has had the worst per capita track record for infections. And now it has both GB and SA variants plus a scary new one out of New York.

Let me circle back to you on that one ;)
Hey, dont make fun of our press secretary :ROFLMAO:

I am hoping the Texas/Alaska trips remain open, which should be no problem.

I am also worried that Salmonchaser will not have his normal traffic. Two years in a row at 1/2 capacity will hurt !

This will help youhttps://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control/self-isolating-when-you-arrive
Looks like different conditions for a layover as you aren't actually leaving the airport
South Africa is on the 'red list' but things are changing so I'm sure you will be fine later in the year.
Cheers
