Great video Randy. Very informative. My pack items are very similar. Only other things I am never without is chap stick and wet wipes.

Great video.. Again mine is similar, I also won't leave the truck without a compass and map. And instead of mole skin I have found duct tape works better for me personally. I wrap a few feet of it around a Bic lighter. It also can come in handy when duct tape just isn't enough.

Nope, I didn't mention it. But a good point for me to expand on.
I'm concerned about weight, but we never are able to cut weight to a reasonable level due to all the production stuff we carry along. We have tried some backpack hunts that required every ounce to be accounted for and they were a challenge as it is very difficult to bring all you need for that kind of far distant hunt, yet still have all the production gear necessary, and keep weight to a reasonable level.
Our AK blacktail hunt was about as far out as we can go for a multi-day hunt. On that six hour hike, we all had 60-70# on the way in. On the way out, I had my deer on top of that, less what little food I had eater and did not have to carry out. Tyler had even more than I did, as he carried the big camera, a small camera, batteries for four days, huge tripod, etc.
Some examples: I carry a two-man Hilleberg tent rather than a one man. Hilleberg are not the lightest of the tent options, but they are the most durable. A two-man with a huge vestibule weighs more than double what a small one-man weighs. Why do I carry that? Because at night or in bad weather, we have thousands of dollars of electronics/cameras that need protected in order to be able to film the next day. The Nallo 2GT has the room and vestibule to protect all of that. So, I carry a tent that costs me an extra 3-4 pounds of weight as insurance that our gear will be protected from the elements.
I probably need to do what a few other shows do; hire WPAs (wilderness production assistants), which in mountaineering are called sherpas. We've never done that and people laugh at us. As I get older, I can see that has more appeal.
But as to weight, I'm not going to proclaim expertise as a lightweight backpack specialist. There are guys on this site that have that dialed in to the finest detail. For me, I bring what I need to be successful, safe, and to capture out story. Even on my day hunts, when I leave the truck, my pack is usually 40#, just because of the "stuff."
If some of the guys on this site wanted to start a thread on super lightweight backpacking tips, I think it would be great. I would surely learn a lot from that.
Today, we are shooting the next segment. When we shoot that, you will see again that weight is not my primary concern and thus I am not an expert on packing for such. Wish I was, but that is just not the environment I operate in.
You western guys are just tougher.
My whitetail pack is just around 20lbs and I don't have to walk that far. Over half of the weight is a camera I have been carrying for the last few years. If it wasn't for that I am pretty sure I wouldn't carry a pack most days.

Listened to a podcast the other day that suggested leukotape rather than ductape. Seems like really good stuff.
