Made worse a wile later with Drumpf nominating Steve Pearce for BLM head. The guy is the worst. Never met a mess he did not like.
Will affect over 13 mil. acres in NM alone.

Sad but not shocking. This has been the path for the last 15 months and they announced they would do this last year. The point is to turn it all into $$$ for company execs, because that is all that matters to them. It's all a grift on the American people.

This basically means things are going back to the way they were two years ago (ish). I'd be curious if any of the provisions in it were ever implemented (specifically conservation leasing). The rule enjoyed vast public support, but Republicans didn't like it. I see this more as another blow to the public process rather than conservation.

A quick search confirms there was no BLM leases for conservation. Directly, not a big change. But it does further the move toward unitary executive theory. Decisions are not made to maximize value, Monetary or otherwise. They are made because the party/president wants to favor one thing over another. In another example the FDA is reviewing approvals for some drugs and vaccines previously approved. This is dangerous and increases the buying of politicians and political favors.

I vaguely remember there was talk of uses like hunting and biking being allowed to remain. Not sure about off-road motorcycles and such, but I doubt that is the reason it was rescinded.

The blue ribbon coalition was one of the big players behind this and were heavily opposed to the public lands rule. They’re heavily funded by OHV manufacturers and to my understanding they receive a lot of financial and lobbying support from extractive industries. Maybe it goes without saying, but it shouldn’t be a surprise that the extractive industries found an ally in the recreational space that supported opening lands to and/or preventing OHV closures…. for obvious reasons.
