Backpack hunting gear for kids

Obviously too expensive to give to your kids - but the Sig image stabilizing binos are pretty great for kids to be able to use and actually enjoy.

Let us know how those vortex’s turn out. The smaller objective makes sense for kids too.

Well today was a big day... my son turns 8 next month and he passed his hunters safety course last month. Today I bought him his first gun! Mossberg 510 mini-bantam in 20 gauge. Specs are pretty sweet for a kid. Interchangeable standard chokes on an 18.5" barrel. 10.5" LOP with a 1" spacer. Stock is made for small hands at the drop so a kid can reach the trigger. After that it can accept a full size stock. Also can accept longer barrels in the future. Total length is under 3'. Total weight is 5 lbs. I can get different choke tubes for turkey or slugs if needed.

In CA at his age we can hunt upland game, waterfowl, small game, turkey, and coyote. Surprising considering that in a lot of states hunting starts at age 12.

Can't wait to see his face when he gets it. He already knows its coming one day but still, it will be a day he will never forget!IMG_9975.jpeg

That’s awesome. Looks like a sweet set up. I just recently started my two kids shooting. Initially I added some weight and a big surpressor to my 6CM and had my 9 year old start in that. He was hitting everything but even the mild recoil seemed like maybe it was leading to at least a reaction after the shot. So I got a 22LR bolt gun that I can drop into my chassis and put on a tripod and he has been shooting that great now - not even blinking - ran the kyl rack down to the 1/4” at 50yards. My 5 year old has also had a go and she is getting the hang of it too. Now I just gotta get him to the hunter safety like you!
