As bear opens

Here is a bear my buddy will be looking to improve upon it went 21" 11/16th and that was after 6 months of drying.

That's a great bear. Hopefully he gets that thing officially scored, if he hasn't already. The ID state record is 21 10/16.

If you guys improve on that one, you will have one hell of a whopper.

What an absolute Giant of a Bear. My first response was WOW! I've hunted them all my life and that bear was what's been in my dreams. Congrates to your buddy.

21 11/16th is what it is I allways hear of them but when I see them measured they are being measured wrong . I watched it measured and the calipers were used corectly I cannot imagine it being off by more than a hair.
I was not there on this one but the one he killed the year before less than a mile away is over 20" also.
He did say he is having it entered in the books.

There isn't a bear-expert wannbe out there that can guess a bear's skull size within an inch from a photo like that. I can tell it's certainly no cub and I hope I shoot one like that sometime..

Well my guess when I saw the bear was 20 8/16th , I did not think it would go over 21. I thought it was like his the year before and was 20 8/16th .
2 years and 2 bears over 20" pretty good huh.
Bear two years ago was 350ish and this bear was over 400 he squared over 7foot

GH - I think they scored it, not doing a visual guess. He talks about drying the skull for six months.

Big fin, check idaho fish and games website to find idaho state records...... its a nice bear no doubt, but on another website the actual hunter even quoted to smiley that it has'nt been officially scored so smiley saying what it is and he was there etc, etc, who knows. Nice bear non the less.....

Not skull size with the bear still attached at all. And Gato man the bears skull was just down the road 2 miles from my house I go to mikes pretty often to talk to him.
I watched it measured and when Nate says official he means by a liscenced or whatever boone and crocket judge. I garuntee it will not be off much.
