I just want to talk about hunting.

44 days until Wyoming antelope
49 days until Wyoming deer & my home state whitetail opens
116 days until Wyoming elk
160 days until Oklahoma elk



I held off as long as I could, but I’m starting to lose it….

Been shooting my bow daily, rifle every weekend, and I’m just ready to be out west.


What’s your first hunt and how long until it starts?

It’s interesting you say that. I plan to do the same. I found some army corp ground that surrounds a lake down here. I have a little duck boat that was given to me, so I plan to infil & exfil all over the place to learn it. Try to kill some does and see what kind of hidden bucks are out there. I think what’s most exciting is we cannot run cameras there, so I have no idea what might go by.

New places are exciting found a piece of piblic an hour from here im gonna try out as well. Looks like if I access by water i may be able to get some elbow room. Surely nobody else is thinking the same lol.

I’ve been too busy to get too excited. Usually by the time hunting season gets here it is often more of a relief than excitement. By the time I get unwound enough to be excited it’s over. Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to it and try to plan well, but life just seems to get in the way of the excitement anymore.

Leave in 64 days for my SD antelope hunt. I'm sure I'll do some dove hunting the first week of September here at home as well.

Most excited by far and away for my Oklahoma elk hunt. Been a dream of mine for over half my life to kill a elk in my home state. One of my long term hunting goals I came up with after reading chuck Adam's super slam in high-school was to kill the Oklahoma big 5 (whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, elk, black bear). If I'm successful I'll only have black bear left.



Besides the elk my other main goal is to get my son a nice buck this year.



Can't think of anything new as far as hunting or camping gear this year. Of course still time to remedy that.

Kansas muzzleloader pronghorn is two months away from today. Scouting trip still unscheduled. I am looking forward to OnX scouting starting once the WIHA maps get updated by KDWP.

I need to feel more comfortable with bullet/powder/primer selections and to feel strong at 200 yards with the CVA Optima.

Well the fires in and around Britney Chukar man have absolutely destroyed our chukar hunting areas. That sucks. My deer draw in Oregon has burned to the ground almost entirely at this point. We’ll see what ODFW does about that. There is a small fire in my elk hunting area, that could be benfifical unless it blows up. My Idaho hunt still looks good.
I was up on the mountain today, getting above the smoke. Saw a few grouse, 1 bear and a bunch of elk sign. I didn’t get above the smoke until I was over 6k.
Chukar hunting really has me bummed out. I’ve hunted them in the same area since the mid sixties. Guess I need to get in there and do some serious scouting.
We will be in Arizona after Thanksgiving. I’m learning more about the quail hunting around Tucson. Late May I’ll be in Africa for Cape Buffalo. I’m a lucky man.

Cow elk starts August 1st for us. I'm taking a first-timer out. I wish the first fell midweek.

Range day and last minute classroom sesh tomorrow. He was USMC so I'm not expecting a steep curve.

Antelope hunting in Wyoming October 1 and a friend drew a deer tag . Then I drew a cow tag for Elk second rifle in Co . Taking the dog and hope to hunt some birds somewhere along the way , maybe a little fishing out west .
Building a off grid trailer and still working out the load on my rifle , plenty busy getting ready , but very excited .

Dusky grouse and sharptail opens sept 1 here in CO. Early goose season is sept 1-9. Sage grouse and ptarmigan opens sept 12.

First up: Doves over Labor Day weekend in Indiana (no dove season in Michigan)

Most excited about: Colorado blues & ptarmigan. I have no planned future trips to Colorado so this could be my last chance to see/kill a ptarmigan.

Season goal: 1a; shoot a ptarmigan! 1b; host friends for ruffed grouse & woodcock in the UP for a week in October.
