Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I'm not saying everything he said is wrong, but taking financial advice about cost of living from the 70's is absurd today. Sure, key principles are still the same, but raising a family and owning a home has never been more expensive.
Totally and I agree with a lot of what he said too. I can't put all of my raises into savings however I try to put about 25% of each cola more in something. I can't quite swing all of it. We'll I could but im not banking on living forever either.

Are you telling me you saved all your raises over the course of your lifetime?
Actually a lot MORE than that over a lifetime. So far. I AM NOT SAYING this is "all ya gotta do is..." or that is everything or they only thing. Somebody asked "What was the point where..." Something like that. These are SOME of the points I heard a little ding sometime shortly after and realized that one hit the target. There is a lot more than just that to a lifetime.

I'd already been alive a little while when the topic first came up. Apply it to your own situation or not, as you see fit.

I sold BRK.B today to buy SPCX at 135.

We try to be pretty good savers. But I called bs that you raised a family on the same pay you had at 22 while.you were 45 while saving all the raises.
I don't think I was so lucky as to get this advice when I was 22, for a start. If I did, I probably ignored as you want to. Figuring I already knew more than that guy, "if you are so smart why are you still here working in the same place I am". I didn't even start having kids until I was 30. Before that was pretty much all a waste financially.

It is not BS. IF I said I did it and I said that is what I did. That is exactly what I did. I don't care what you think. I'm doing YOU a favor. I NEVER ASKED YOU FOR ADVICE OR HOW YOU DID ANY THING.

Being good savers, is only half the solution. The world is stealing from you the whole time your "work value" is laying in the bank feeling nice and cozy. The banker, the insurance man, the city, state and feds are all stealing your work with out even looking at your bank book.

That may be. Post #1 or a different original question. I may not even be answering a question you asked. I don't pay much attention to who asked what unless it gets down to a one on one like we are here.

There is ALWAYS a reason you can't. Everyone always has a reason.
Things that are inflexible needs going up in price is sure one. Had a boat battery crap out yesterday. A bit less than a year old. A new, identical one? Price is a third higher than it was bought for last year. Diesel for my truck is up 30 percent. A basic polo shirt for work up around 1/3.

Those might be the high side outliers, but for the majority, costs to live are far outpacing COLAs and raises once the cost of tariffs and war kicked in.

Glad we dont need as much at our age.

And simultaneously every business owner wants to be a multi millionaire and every workers wants to make $200k with five weeks of vacation. They both want to pay zero taxes while looking forward to an early retirement when they can enjoy the fruits of their labor backstopped by a social safety net provided by the government. I’m afraid the whole thing is unsustainable.
