Any hockey fans out there?

Yeah what in the heck are the Wild doing. I did see they made a qualifying offer to Rossi. I'm guessing that was the plan all along. See if they could get a trade for something and worst case they land here
So we picked up another expensive guy who doesn't score many goals? Am I the only one who was expecting our cap space to get us Kaprizov plus another top 6 forward?

I love this. Sorry, @Wildabeest. but maybe Burns gets his cup here?

They have not posted terms or AAV $ yet…

Great guy, but his production fell way off last year from an offensive standpoint, and his defense just seemed to lack effort. I wish him the best and hope he does well for you. We picked up K’andre Miller, so I think we’ll be ok. Plus our KHL recruit who has lots of promise. And we still have $18M of cap space.

Yeah, I’d sure rather have Miller at this point/age, but at now reported $1M AAV + games-played bonuses, Burns as a 3rd pair guy is totally fine with me.

CAR might be the current winners of the Mikko trade, honestly. Stankoven locked up and still all that cap room. Yikes.

Who do they spend it on? This FA year we see that with the cap going up, no one is moving. It is expected to keep going up. A lot of teams betting on next year's FAs or even trades because they have cap room are going to be disappointed. You have to take a guy that is unhappy where he is, and that is always a risk.

Yeah, not an inspiring group of UFAs left on the board, and since cap space is basically an asset, you’re not getting much value out of it.

But having space allows a lot of flexibility if you can make it to the trade deadline in March in a decent spot in the standings. I don’t know what other pieces CAR has left to fill on the NHL roster, but if they roll into March in a playoff spot with $10M, that’s not a bad thing.

I concur that holding onto a ton of space with the cap going to 104M next year planning to swing for the fences is probably not a great choice. Lots of the pending UFA big names are simply going to sign (big $) extensions and then the price gets inflated for the guys that don’t.

More likely, I’m just a little jealous since my Avalanche generally hover around $0 in cap space and I’d rather be watching hockey than reading about bottom 6 wing targets :)

We still have $10M in cap space. Hopefully we can dump the crappy Kotkaniemi contract and still have some money left for a better 2nd line center.
Good luck. I'm seeing 14 teams with more than $10m in cap space and quick glance looks like there are no 2nd line centers available, even in trade. Only way you get rid of Kotkaniemi is with a "change of scenery" trade and you sure won't get a 2nd line center in return. Pretty boring offseason in total.

Everyone is looking at next year's UFA class and if this year is any indication, I doubt there will be much movement.
