That's funny... I don't see "Hunt your own food" or "Reload" on the list.

I saw a list like this not long ago on how to reduce water usage and it actually had on it "Only flush your toilet after 7 uses." Why 7 and not 6 or 8 I'm not sure.

UUuurrggghh... Funny, I already do at least half of the items listed. I usually only flush the toilet when I can't see the bottom any more -urgh. I recycle everything, and every bulb I own is floresent. My new truck is designed to run on 20% biodiesel. We all KNOW that we can't use energy like we did in the 60s and 70s. We do all we can AND YET IT'S NEVER ENOUGH. Carbon footprints and credits, my fanny!!
Whenever one of my nosey neighbors comes by with a mile-long list of things to further their socialistic agenda (but ALWAYS for my enlightenment), I usually enjoy putting them into a headlock and bouncing them down the street. Especially when I know for a fact that they NEVER do ANY of the things they're trying to convince ME to do. I live in the land of hypocrisy.

Dave I think alot of your neighbors got scared off and moved here. I have to check the little calendar to see if it is green waste or recycle going out with the trash (if they are mixed they won't pick it up) then the new neighbors will tell me my deisel is more damaging then their Hybrid, I need to change lights and I need to carpool. then they borrow a their friends 1975 3/4 ton truck and haul their race car accross the country for races????

Yeah Scotty got to love Kali
Just read about this down south...another reason to split the state!!

LOS ANGELES — Hollywood residents believe they've found a humane way to reduce their pigeon population and the messes the birds make: the pill.

Over the next few months a birth control product called OvoControl P, which contains nicarbazin interferes with egg development and an egg's ability to hatch, will be placed in bird food in new rooftop feeders.

"We think we've got a good solution to a bad situation," said Laura Dodson, president of the Argyle Civic Association, the group leading the effort to try the new contraceptive. "The poop problem has become unmanageable and this could be the answer."

Dodson said representatives from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals contacted her group with the idea to use OvoControl P. Other animal rights groups, including the Humane Society of the United States, support the contraceptive over electric shock gates, spiked rooftops, poisons or other methods.

It's estimated about 5,000 pigeons call the area home. Their population boom is blamed in part on people feeding the birds, including a woman known as the Bird Lady, who was responsible for dumping 25-pound bags of seed in 29 spots around Hollywood.

The pilot program was expected to show results within a year, and the Hollywood area's pigeon population is expected to shrink by at least half by 2012, Dodson said.

I'm planting bamboo as we speak. And buying some energy credits sure sounds like a great way to spend my money.

I can see the benifits of doing quite a few of the items listed on CJ's list. I grow most of my own vegetables and maintain a compost pile. I don't have air conditioning and my energy bill is usually around $20-40 a month. I sometimes buy jeans and tee shirts at the Salvation Army. Because I'm such a cheap sob, I've incorporated many product and energy saving ideas years ago before it was popular. Do I get a Brownie Button?
But, I refuse to use wimpy, overpriced biodegradeable products that don't work. (Ever try that stuff called "safety solvent?" Pure junk.) Farmer's Markets are a politically correct name for the Collective Farm Dispensary -over-priced produce of questionable origin... we have lots of problems with silenium and MTB in our ground water out here. Even if it says "organic" it'll still kill you deader than a doornail.
I just KNEW the vegans couldn't resist taking a swipe: "Cut out the burgers" is listed towards the end. Yea...sure, anything ya say, Skippy... and next time would ya mind not frightening me so badly with your dramatic display of self-absorbed narcisscisum and rightous indignation. Typical...
My pinhead neighbor I mentioned earlier (he doesn't try to "convert" me anymore) drives a Hybrid with "No Blood For Oil" and "Who Whould Jesus Bomb" stickers plastered all over it. I'm sure it would rattle apart at the seams without them. He drives it ALL the time -day and night- presumeably to show it off. Because his type are so neuroticlly predisposed to self-congratulatory excesses, he couldn't stop himself from pointing out what a great person he is, and how I made such a bad, eco-unfriendly decision buying my new 3/4 ton diesel truck. He didn't like it too much when I pointed out that when he got around to replacing the batteries in his kiddy-car, he would be transplanting enough contaminated lead and plastic into a landfill AND enough sulfuric acid fumes into the atmostphere to last anyone with a brain in their head 10 lifetimes.

CJ,
Are you opposed to doing any of the things that are listed in your post?

For starters these...I like it very cool inside [summer]hump '
I have my own well so I can use all the water I want.:)

Turn the thermostat (up in summer, down in winter)
Cut back on water usage

Had my highest electric bill ever last month $289.00 it was worth every penny:)

Yep Cali you got me pegged... I'm a greeny:D

hey..isn't there mercury in fluorescent bulbs? and if not, why are major corporations required to dispose of them and account for them? how many households do that?

Share with him the ecological damage the manufacturing of that battery does to the environment. One of the girls I work with researched it on her own after we pointed out to her that the processing of the Zinc for the batteries cause hundreds of time more damage then any Hummer H1 does. She bought a Suburu after her reseach and now refuses to ever consider a hybrid.

Everyone pollutes. Everyone uses a toilet from time to time. We all use energy. The thing that urks me is the implication that the human species is responsable for destroying the earth and really shouldn't even really be here. What tweeks me even more are people who fool themselves into thinking that by buying the approved (correct) brand of product will somehow aid in them being the next Jesus Christ. Most of it is centered around cosmetic ideaology and self-worship (I'm better than you).
Yep, there's mercury in floresent bulbs -so that's still a problem. So far mine have lasted 5 years, and when they burn out, I can recycle them at my job (one of the benifits of working for the country.)

Spent 3 days this week in the garment dyed capitol of the rockies...Telluride...eco conscious signages abound...all within view of a lanscape freckled with 15,000,000 'green' mansions. Yesiree, a veritible testament to restraint.

...good idea for a bumpersticker: 'Conservation is for the Unwashed'...just ask Gore.
