Due to an error in the 2006 Alberta Hunting Draws booklet and mentioned in the 2006 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations, there is an overlap of one day between the antelope archery season and the trophy (rifle) antelope season.

September 25 was mistakenly listed as a day on which both archery and rifle antelope hunting can occur in wildlife management units (WMUs) 138, 142, 144, 150, 151, 152, 160, 162, 163, 164 and 166, which are located in southeastern Alberta.

Antelope archery season normally ends the day before the trophy antelope season begins in these WMUs. The archery season began September 6 and should have closed on September 24 rather than September 25. The trophy antelope season runs from September 25 until September 30.

The Fish and Wildlife Division of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development sent letters to all the archery and trophy antelope hunters that applied for the draw to advise them of the season overlap error. Additional information is also available on the Recreational Licensing Management (RELM) website at www.albertarelm.com.

Of concern is that archery hunters often use and hide behind antelope decoys while hunting. All hunters are cautioned to be aware that both archery and rifle hunters may be in the field on September 25.

For more information about hunting, contact your local Fish and Wildlife office or visit www.srd.gov.eb.ca/fw/hunting/.

Now that's a whoops!!!

Man I hope everyone plays it safe that day.
