Alaska and FWS

This will end up in court if I had to guess.

When will it stop? What's stopping them from closing hunting of ungulates?

The all out war on predators in AK is a bit exteme, however EVERYONE including non-residents benifit from the practice. All guys that hunt the 40 Mile country l, hunt in intensely manages areas. No wonder the moose and bou hunting is good ;). Many other popular areas of the state are also managed similarly.

Also land managed by USFWS in the upper northwest was recently closed to caribou hunting for all non locals. US Federal management at its finest.

The Service can determine what species you hunt for on wildlife refuges, parks & others areas. CMR is a good example. No hunting of elk on Slippery Ann, no cougar or bear hunting at all, and non-toxic for upland birds.

If Alaska hadn't declared a war on wolves and grizz, do you think this would have happened? Cory Rossi & SFW's legacy right here.

ANILCA is a funny beast that specificly dictates how resources are managed by the state. No other statr that i know of has such a document. John Sturgeon recently challenged the Park Service and their "control" of navigable waters in the state. The feds lost to ANILCA's deffinition. The justices made many remarks about who was interpreting the law up to that point, and how clear it was. John spent upward of $350 000 of his own money to fight it, all so he could run a giver craft up a river in the Yukon Charley preseve. If this change starts to affect subsitence, you can bet $$$ will be found to take this to the Supreme Court, but by whom will be the biggest question. The Native corps won't bite the hand that feeds, so... it will be interesting no doubt.

Rossi and SFW had very little to do with the current "war" on predators, they may have kiced the ball a bit, but many other NGOs have kept it in play. We aren't going to run out of prrdators anytime soon. Predator managment costs a lot of money, and is temporary for the most part.

This isn't just about killing a few wolves or bears, it's about taking control of a resource they don't have the authority to do so.

Someone or some group will get pissed off enough to challenge this. Surely won't be our limp-wristed governor.
