Saw a post Wisconsin BHA posted about Tom Tiffany wanting to make The Apostle Islands a National Park, and they (BHA) are opposed to this. They explained that locals and the tribes don't want it as a National Park as their reason. Also that it would eliminate some 40k (edit) acres of hunting and fishing opportunities.

My question and I will be contacting them directly as well. Is why would permanently protecting the area be bad and to my understanding the Apostle Islands are already a National Lakeshore managed under the National Park system.

Following this one. While it would be cool to have a National Park here, I can understand parts of the counter-argument as well.

If the Indians have a say in the decision, there would be no hunting of fishing opportunities for the paleface anyway.
