AI tips, tricks, faults, and failures

You must be a Chinese operative with all your anti-data center opinions.
You must not read thoroughly to comprehend what I’ve said. I’m a 7th generation farmer who’s tired of having my land taken when I don’t want to sell it. Pretty simple. How much land do you own? How much land have you had taken by eminent domain? I find it funny that everyone gets up in arms when there’s talk of public land being taken, yet some of these same folks don’t see a problem when it’s happening to someone’s private land. It’s like if you don’t have any skin in the game, why give a shit?

It was a tongue and cheek comment. I absolutely understood your comment and share your concerns

Did you read the article? Apparently there are some people out there who can't imagine others being anti data center, and therefore any precieved resistance to them must be coming from China... It's such an absurd position I thought you'd appreciate it

I appologize I took it the wrong way. Yes I read it, and it is absurd. You just happened to hit me on 2 sensitive topics for me. Obviously AI, but also Chinese anything right now….. in March a Chinese nationalist used my farm for a turnaround while he was lost going 40mph where he ran over and killed my 12 Catahoula coyote dog. Sorry again, sometimes I have a hard time picking up tone over a forum.

I'm sorry man.

not in the winter it doesn't.
Most of the new data centers are closed loop so the water never leaves the system. That water number is way too high at baseline, but they are getting more efficient at water and energy (although electricity prices are not showing it).

After reading this thread I tried to have it colorize a photo and it changed the faces. Not sure what I did incorrectly, but wasnt impressed.

um, where did you pull that stat? I've spent 3 years working to supply water for 6 of them. Zero are closed loop. Truly closed loop is a misnomer, but some systems don't rely on evaporation, which does reduce the water consumption.

Oops. Should have said NEW. I edited. Either way, just using over two cups of water in 20seconds would push the limits of physics. There has to be other uses in that number.

They will always default to evaporative cooling if it's an option because it's FAR cheaper. The limitations are source capacity, water rights, and post-evaporation disposal. Any conveyance infrastructure costs are almost always cheap enough to justify it

You mean it isn't cheaper to put them in space? LOL.
I asked AI about that estimate and it agree it needs context. The estimate was for a 10-50 prompt conversation that lead to the 100-word email.

AI tells me true "zero water" closed loop cooling accounts for 10-25% of the global data center footprint.

I've always been hesitant to ask AI about it's water usage. It feels like asking a toddler whether or not he hit his little brother who started crying out of the blue when you looked away.

I'm a bit behind the times, just discovered chatgpt
Colourised my Dad's WW2 taken in Egypt
He is the chap on the right, he was about 22 years old

That is super cool. One question that comes to mind is, now that it has it what does chatgpt do or what can it do with that photo? What do these llms do with data/documents that’s uploaded? I know we can turn off, “use my data to train AI”, but this stuff is still stored “somewhere”, to be later independently used or at least accessed by the AI model?
