A Real Sport

Agree on the sport, disagree on the choice of team.

That reminds me- I need to go workout. Have a match next Saturday.

What are those guys doing? mtmuley
Football without pads or the forward pass.

If that was a more serious inquiry- international rugby, World Cup qualifier matches. New Zealand All Blacks vs South Africa Springboks.

NZ is the most dominant team of any sport in history- win percentage is over 75%, starting back in 1905. SA is historically second in win percentage (in rugby).

Both very good teams, usually a good rivalry match. NZ has a tendency to keep a game relatively close until the last few minutes, then find some otherworldly level of fitness to run up the score at the end. Don’t know if they did today- haven’t watched it yet.

NFL football with pads is way more brutal than that. Got a big deal up in Missoula every year for that game. Never been. And I like football. And beer. mtmuley
I don’t like to compare the two sports- just leads to arguments. But the players are just as big, run just as fast (or faster), then have to make tackles. Play with the same players the entire game, maximum of 8 substitutions. Oh, and blocking isn’t allowed, either.

Missoula Maggotfest is fun. Folks from all over the country (and international). Lots of beer. The people tend to be about as weird as you’d expect, but everybody has a good time.

The biggest thing I like, is that anybody has a chance to play for as long as they like- I’ve played with some guys well into their 60s. Seems it’s about the only opportunity for contact sports after high school, really. But it’s fun.

Maybe the protective equipment leads to the violent collisions. Being here pretty much my whole life I probly should experience Maggotfest. mtmuley

Leading with your helmet and targeting the head is the biggest issue. Far less concussions and CTE in rugby.

That part amazes me. Especially since the leading with the head has been virtually non existent in today's NFL. When I played in the 80's it was taught. mtmuley
