I notice that Mustangs is using a powder that probably few have tried. Nosler data shows good numbers with Ramshot Biggame another powder not mentioned above. Their data is with a 24 inch barrel so that would need to be taken into account but would imply that 2900 with a 165 would not be out of reach in some rifles certainly with a 22 inch barrel.
Of course, there are other considerations than top speed when choosing a load.
I am currently putting together a 22 inch 308 so I am going to try some different powders and see what happens but if I end up around 2800 with an accurate load, I will be OK with that. In reality, I have a cheap chronograph so I will probably never know for sure, and it will not actually matter.
