Check out "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. "300" isn't based on the book, but it is about the battle of Thermopylae and should be a good teaser for the movie.
I haven't felt like I could kick someone's ass so much after walking out of a movie since Rockie, except this time I pretended I had a spear and shield in my hands as opposed to a pair of gloves.
I just got back from seeing it, so here is my review. Plot was small.. Fights were big. I had higher expectations for this movie i guess and was a bit dissapointed.
It is a good flick, but it if you are expecting a movie as good as Gladiator, or LOR, you will be dissapointed. It isnt even close to either of those two flicks, but still is a damn good flick to see and worth going to the theater for.
I give it a 4 out of 5 stars
I also just got back from watching this flick. I pretty much have the same review as schmalts. The fight scenes are intense and I like the beginning on how spartan warriors became warriors. All in all a good flick but I also was expecting a little more.
I saw it as well. Definately entertaining and worth seeing on the big screen, but with all the advertisements they had running about it, I expected a bit more. Not Gladiator or LOR quality because they seem to embrace the digital creation a bit too much.
I saw it yesterday, first thing I thought was "President Bush needs to see this flick, he could learn a few lessons on how a country should be run". If this flick don't get your blood pumping they might as well go ahead and bury you right now. I also like the way how they trained the spartan boys to become warriors too. I plan on buying the dvd when it comes out and i'd also give it a 4 out of 5 stars rating.
Saw it last night!! I really liked it. I thought the digital imagery was excellent. I agree that it was not on the same level as Gladiator or LOR, but, it moves much faster and with intense purpose. It keeps you focused throughout and I left the theater in a hyper state!!!
HAIL SPARTA !!!!!!!
