I'm thinking about purchasing a new rifle. I want it for deer, antelope, and elk. I know .270 is fine for deer and lopes, but not sure about elk. Any suggestions?

IMO, a .270 is fine for elk. Use a sturdy 150 grain bullet for all the animals you listed & keep the same POA.

Punch em through the lungs, and the'll tip over dead.

Use 150 partitions, or similar and you won't have any problems.

a 270 should work great for all around, doesnt kick bad so accuracy is the important thing, killed many elk w 270 w 130 or 150 coreloct standard bullets.

If you do go with the 270 for an all around gun look at the 140gr Accubond bullets. they work great and will take anything you should be shooting at with the 270.

Knew a guy back home in Montana in the late 80's early 90's that had a pre-64 winny since the 50's I believe. He'd killed an elk every year with that gun shooting 130gr pills, and some damn fine bulls too.

.270 is pretty common for Texans and Californians.... Don't see it used much by people that actually hunt elk and live where the elk do.... Kind of like those 2-wheel drive Suburbans that Texans buy.....

I really like my .300 for just about anything. It is probably overkill for antelope, but does very well with larger game like elk.

I can see why you might need more gun Jose...you don't want em gettin close enough to smell your Summer's Eve aftershave....

Once I watched a friend shoot an elk with a 270...it got hit 12 times before it died. Yikes! Now that said I've also watched a kid drop a nice bull with 2 hits from a 270 both in the lungs at 100 yards. 270's work but they start sucking at longer distances.
I'm with Jose..270's are like 2 wheel drive. Why not have 4 wheel drive?

12 times huh? sounds like he should of stayed home

.270 is outstanding for elk. My father killed around 50 elk with one, using 130 gr coreloks mostly.

My kid has harvested 3 with his. I like to load up 130 gr. Barnes TTSX in it. I don't shoot much different. .280 Rem. loaded with Barnes 140's.

Killed my last three bulls with a .270,two of them recquired follow-up shots.....guess I shouldn't sneak up on them so close.3 bulls under 40 yds.,that 140 gr. BTSP is screaming fast, works better when it slows down a bit.
