Over every hill. SD is full of them. Tighten up the laces and getcha one!!!To early to be asking for people's honey holes? Screw beating around the bush, I wanna know where the locals are seeing a few 70 inch bucks running around![]()
Tighten up the laces? This is an antelope hunt. Sleeping in, coffee and donuts in the truck and driving around for hours just looking from the truck window I thought was how you were supposed to do it?Over every hill. SD is full of them. Tighten up the laces and getcha one!!!
I understood you wanted a 70"er. road hunting will only get you a 65"Tighten up the laces? This is an antelope hunt. Sleeping in, coffee and donuts in the truck and driving around for hours just looking from the truck window I thought was how you were supposed to do it?
Darn, guess Ill need the boots afterall. Actually, this is one of the few areas to antelope hunt where there are some large tracts of public to explore around. Most of the SD antelope units you aren't exactly needing to hike much as the public generally aren't large tractsI understood you wanted a 70"er. road hunting will only get you a 65"
Here's what you do. You spot an antelope from the road, he spots you too. He takes off at a trot going 35mph. You got the gas to catch up, he brings it up to mid 50's to escape. You jam the gas and get to 75mph on the dirt road. You get ahead and jump you, the antelope turns and runs partially away. You start lobbing lead, you miss terribly, so you keep lobbing the other four rounds in your 223 until you finally give up and do it all again at next piece of publicDarn, guess Ill need the boots afterall. or, you figure out where the rest of humanity is likely to be at opening morning and go somewhere else and find an unspooked buck and shoot him before he becomes super adrenalin charged. Honestly, antelope do not have to be run 15 before shooting one. I have not hunted this unit in 20 years but I might draw an elk tag next year so it will a good time to look around and start figuring things out. I 'll be in an old white super duty. I'll shoot you a dm before the season. Might not be out there for opener. Not sure how the population looks this year, but hopefully all the rains have helpedor, you figure out where the rest of humanity is likely to be at opening morning and go somewhere else and find an unspooked buck and shoot him before he becomes super adrenalin charged. Will be less people out for sure. Animals might be more skittish but I think it's a decent exchange to be around less peopleMy wife has a pheasant hunt helping with the shoot like a girl org Oct 6 to 9 so no opening day for us. Looking like we are planning on Oct 15 to Oct 19

Is this your first sd antelope hunt?
We have shot some low to mid 60s bucks in Wyoming and honestly been very happy with those and the experience so anything ballpark around there will be the target. There is a lot of ground to play around on so I'm excited for that. Looks like a cool part of the state based on photos and terrain mapsOh nice, good luck!!
Those two are my only antelope, but both sd. Always been happy with their size, above average for sd I would say
