2025 Garden!

It's in the kitchen, behind the door. I'm convinced it's giving off some kind of warning beacon!
I had a problem with squirrels in my garage. One time I found some maple helicopter seeds in my attic. No clue how they got in there. I declared war then and there! Small game animal, have a season. I have HEARD ;) about putting a spike in a tree and stabbing an ear of corn on it to "bait" a squirrel into a spot and slowly open the door and shoot them while they're sitting there eating corn.

Big garden weekend. Wife was inside processing veggies as I was outside weeding the entire garden. Garden is caught up on work. We’re going camping/fishing next weekend.

Basic garden picking

Wife started making sauerkraut. Heads are around 8 pounds a piece. We’re slowly filling the crock. It’ll be done in the next day or two and hidden in the basement 60-90 days.

Nice garden. I tried the sauerkraut one year. We don't eat enough to do it again. A few gherkins coming on. The Armenian cuc's are growing. Finally had it with the zucchini and pulled it.
My corn isn't going to be good this season. Watering was all wrong at the time it should have been better. I'm going to have 3' tall it's tasseling now. Oh well these mid June frosts are becoming a royal pain. Or I plant late June and hope for the best. We only have about 65 days of good growing up here.

Got a little lazy with my tomatoes and the unrelenting heat and humidity was really taking a toll on them. Cut them way back to hopefully limp through the rest of summer. Cherokee purples look pretty rough. Other ones will be fine though, I think. Everything else is doing great. 4 year old was so happy not to have squash for supper again tonight. Ready to start getting some pepper ferments going too. 20250722_191353.jpg20250722_191400.jpg20250722_191403.jpg20250722_191408.jpg20250722_192304.jpg

made zucchini loaves #7, 8, 9 last night. picked 2 more so enough for 3 more loaves and that will be it. 1 loaf a month is plenty. Blanched some potatoes I pulled from the garden, frozen and then put into vacuum bags. I have 2 more grow bags to process and the potatoes will be finished. Picked a gallon of green beans tonight along with about a dozen banana peppers that I'll pressure can shortly.
I’m curious about your potato freezing. Something you’ve done for awhile? Is blanching required?

Deja vu picture. Blueberries and black raspberries will be done this week. Wife has saved enough blacks for a jelly. Red raspberry jam will be made this week too. Blueberries are ate as quick as we pick them.

Cauliflower is ready but wife doesn’t want to process yet. Same with cabbage. Picked a few cucumbers for the soon to be made pickles.

Corn is looking good for an august harvest.

I checked my bees. My industrious hive filled the new hive box with honey. I was lazy and used my old bees hood and no smoke. They stung me three times before they chased me out of the garden. Bastards. I’d kill them but they’re the best hive I’ve owned.

How do you guys have so few weeds in your garden?!

I look away for two days and you can't even see my onions anymore through the weeds!

Maybe I've been using the same dirt for too long without a big kill using fire? Been tilling the same soil for 8 years now without herbicide or anything else minus just pulling weeds

Row covers help prevent weeds. I spent many hours last weekend weeding too. I had five boxes out of control. Now that it’s weeded, I need to spend some time each week maintaining.

I weedeat my paths. My next thought is laying down weed barrier and placing rocks. My lawn between the boxes idea has turned into a weed patch.

Yes and yes. Boil for 5 minutes. Spread onto cookie sheets and freeze. After froze i put into food saver bags and back into freezer.

Man I even do plastic weed barrier with a cut out for the rows of garlic etc. The weeds take over around the plants
