2025 dove thread

I'm debating. I haven't done a dove hunt in close to 20 years. I actually have the opportunity to go, and have a place where I have been seeing good numbers of birds. We'll see how I feel tomorrow night.

I'm very excited for it this year!

I got a new German Shepherd puppy several months ago, and though I realize she is not a "real" bird dog, and I don't even know how to train a serious bird dog, I noticed she loves chasing after pigeons in the yard....so I'm thinking she'll have fun running around flushing doves for me.

I like hiking around and "jump-shooting" and so I avoid the crowds in the fields on the opening and hike in to areas with less birds but few if any other hunters.

It takes just one cold front a day or two before season and the majority are gone. Sure, you can get a 2nd wave later but wish it would stay hot and dry 5 days before and 5 days after opener. Oh heck, I wasn't going Dove hunting anyway

The wife planned a big get together pool party at our place for Monday and fully expects me to help host and cook. So I'll be sitting out opener this year. I'll slide out to some public before work on Tuesday and try to shoot a few. But the big show will be the week after. Gonna pick the kids up early from school next Tuesday and run down to SW Oklahoma. We should get down with enough time to shoot 2-3 hours that evening. Then will string up our hammocks sleep under the stars and wake up to shoot some more doves.

I have a dove shoot every year. I planted a couple acres of white millet in April. Its been bushhogged and seed is everywhere. Hopefully birds will show up. Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont! Its a social event in the south.

2 dove breasts sandwiched with cream cheese and jalapeno slice, wrapped with bacon works!!!!
