Opening weekend bird in CA. Took me till the second morning to get them figured out. Taking a couple of friends out this week.

Opening day in Va. Called in 3 Tom's 15 yards 2 of them off 3 hens. My friend couldn't get his shot off. Had about 8 Tom's sounding off at day break.
1" spurs, 10.5 beard and 5" beard. Looks like he kept his Jake tail for some reason. The 2 Tom's I called off the hens we're both mature birds. I figure the bird I shot was the Tom from behind our setup. Anyway great morning. Anyone ever see a tailfan like this ?

Colorado public otc bird. Roosted him last night and he came straight to me off the roost this morning after gobbling at every sound in the woods for 45 mins. 14 minute season

That's awesome! Had some good weather for it what a great day. My boy turns 7 this April and I think next year will do his first turkey hunt. Gonna have to get him practicing with the 410.
Check where the feathers meet the skin, I bet the outside feathers are still growing. They lose the centers first so sometimes it will appear like a Jake when the outside fall out and new start growing in.
Was a cloudy, cold, windy drizzly day but I managed to get this one late morning. Awkward pose since I had skin surgery on my back on Thursday to remove a severe abnormal growth that was turning pre cancerous. Had to have my brother carry the bird out for me.

My son was 8 when he killed his first turkey. A ground blind is great for that. Also shooting sticks help a bunch

Trying to figure out if I want to make a 5 hour drive next Friday for a day and a half of hunting.

Scott, I've done 2 hours for a number of years before I obtained a farm 1 hour away for half day hunt so 5 hours seems about right. You'll remember the hunt.
