Had my best year on deer ever this year! Scored on two big DIY, public land, national forest bucks. I decided to purchase an Idaho non resident tag as a resident which allowed me to have two tags.

The first deer was 26" wide, 4x5 (including brow tines). He was shot at about 40 yards with a 270 with 130 nosler partitions at 3100 FPS. This deer was HUGE!!! It hung at 176 pounds which put it at 300 plus live weight. Also, it was fully in rut - stinky haucks and huge swollen neck.

The second deer is 26" wide, 6x5 (including brow tines). He was shot at about 80 yards with my 300 WSM shooting 180 nosler partitions at 3000 FPS. Long 4 mile pack out - but worth it!! My biggest buck to date!!!

I am taking the cape from deer number one and going to use it to mount deer #2. May also do a euro mount on deer 1.

Definitely a season to remember. Both are beautiful bucks and well worth the effort. Nice first post and welcome to the forum. Looking forward to future posts and picks.

Great job on your bucks, filling two tags with animals like that is a great accomplishment. My hats off two you.Welcome to HuntTalk!

Thanks for the kind words - I have followed this forum forever - just finally created an account to post on here.

We actually took home 3 deer as my wife was able to harvest a little spike buck.
