Take a flat lander elk hunting

Depends on what you call "good blacktail area" those sneaky b'tards hide during early season, its O.K. for a "meat hunt" does and small bucks, if you want a decent buck you are better off hunting November with a Muzzleloader.

    outfitter ethics

I recently got in a pissing match with a guy that has a "guide" business here in Washington. Now, Washington state has no license requirements to be a guide, but in order to operate you have to have a business license, insurance, and appropriate permits from the landowner to operate for a...

    Columbia Blacktail Advise

In my area (Washington) the best time is the last week of modern firearm (end of Oct.) and late buck (4 more days weekend before Thanksgiving) seems like they schedule seasons to avoid peak rut. Archery and ML run early (Sept.) or late (end Nov.-Dec.)

    Roosevelt Question

After hunting Rocky Mountain Elk, a Roosevelt looks like a Volkswagen bus !! but typically the ones we get are 2-3 year olds, and only slightly larger than a RM. I did have a friend that got a cow, hanging weight at the butcher (no head, hide or backstraps ;) ) went 379 pounds.

    Any Washington Elkers out here

I have lived in Washington all my life (49 years) and been hunting since I was 14... Hunting is great if you get out of your truck !! Most hunters in Washington rarely get more than a mile from their rig, so find an area that has elk, find a gate, and you will be surprised how lonely you will be.

    Trophy Roosevelt or Trophy Rocky?

In Washington a RM is easier to get a "trophy" just because of restrictions, spike only has allowed permit holders to harvest more mature bulls, while the 3 pt restriction on the west side directs harvest at 2-3 y/o+ bulls. They have to live to be older to get bigger... But some roosies live a...

    Roosevelt or Rocky ???

I am a little confused , Rocky and Roosevelt are separated by where they are located, what makes you say a Roosie was leading Rockies ? Anyhow, my input is that Rocky Mountain Elk are easier to locate, but Roosevelt are easier to call in. Rocky Mountain Elk come in quicker, but are more likely...

Cleaning hair etc from elk/deer meat

Any moisture left on meat promotes bacteria growth, but washing meat is fine, as long as you do not let it stay over 40 degrees for any amount of time. get it dry and cool after washing,

    what is a guide ????????

This subject is important to me, as after hearing about some "guides" in my area that charge outstanding prices to sit in a blind on a field, looking at a pile of apples and hoping an elk would wander by I decided to start my own "guide" service. I offered to provide comfortable sleeping...
