About to take a 350 mile one way trip for a doe antelope. Otherwise all my hunts are day hunts within an hour or two drive. Fuel prices aren't going to affect my hunting.
Brother and I both drew buck antelope and one son got two antelope doe tags for the same unit. Point creep killed us in the deer draw. Congrats to everyone that drew!
Spent over two weeks in region 7 the last two seasons.
4k doe tags is an extinction level event for the amount of antelope I saw on the landscape.....holy smokes.
Congrats! Me and my 16 yr old daughter applied for a combo General Deer D tag and got it with 4 points. I got my Pronghorn Buck (45) tag with 6 and then she got 2 doe antelope tags in the adjacent units at 25% odds for each. Feeling pretty good about this trip, this will be her first time out west!
No sheep, goat or bison for me. Still holding out for the coveted whitetail doe tag and an archery antelope plus elk B. There is still hope for something.
Back when numbers were pretty good (20-25 years ago), they'd give 12-14K either sex permits, and I believe all (or most) those successful license holders were then offered 2 extra doe/fawn permits. Do that math. Currently (my own opinion based on small local observations) there's less than...
Honestly for me I’d be more interested in game taken than tags issued. They could issue 30k tags….please don’t but if your still only taking 1500 antelope 🤷♂️
I have drawn well over 100 pronghorn tags. Wasn't long ago in Wyoming you could get 6 tags/year. Most I ever had in a year was 4. I drew 3 pronghorn tags in wyoming last year, filled my buck tag, tossed the 2 doe tags. There were also years in Montana that you could shoot 4.
The buck I shot...
I calculated my price of antelope meat from the other weekend. Buck + doe = ~60 lbs of meat. Out the door around $5.50 - $6 a pound. Not bad, considering the stress relief, exercise, etc. that was also part of that trip.
I think Pat one time said a couple things make people crazy. Elk and money. I'd toss antelope hunting in there. Might not have been him but kinda true. mtmuley
A lot of people drink and beat there wives and kids or worse. Prohibition?
How about reckless drivers?
If it had been a wounded doe antelope, would you feel the same way about big game hunting?
