I have the best luck with a mix of cardio, strength training my core, and hiking with 60-70 pounds in the pack I take. Make it a lifestyle and do a little bit all year round vs trying to cram it all in before season. Enjoy!
Hang in there man. It took me 4 hunts to finally succeed. I went on 3 archery hunts and had 50 close calls. I had came to full draw 5-6 times on good bulls and only shot 1 arrow (which was deflected off a branch I didn't notice and missed by a mile). When I finally drew a rifle tag for the area...
Here is a write up that I did about my first season colorado rifle hunt....and about elk hunting in general. The format copied and pasted a little weird but you get the just of it. Hope you enjoy.

Well. How do you hunt? Are you a good shot? On paper, the .300 hands down. Heck a .338 is better. I have a .338 that has a 26" (I think) barrel.... With the glass I have on it that thing weighs over 10 pounds and I think closer to 11. I do all hiking and backpacking when I elk hunt so the 10...
I do laugh when people say this. Yes a large part of the southeast part of the state is exactly as you describe. But a lot of the west and northwest is more like wyoming/SD (as stated above) then what you describe. The northern part along the missouri river and the western part has some pretty...
Welcome. Include a little more info. What is your experience level? Ever elk hunted before? Archery? Are you in shape? I think providing more information will get you some more specific answers. I think most people will be a little shy about giving specifics about specific spots in exact units...
I rarely have ANY game meat that is off flavor or "gamey". People say old bucks, bulls, and antelope can have many different flavors...and most aren't good. I guess I disagree with most of that talk. The antelope I got last year was some of the best game meat I have ever eaten and that thing...
Diamox (acetazolamide) will not be found in the OTC remedies for altitude sickness. It would be a mainstay treatment for patients who presented for urgent care for altitude sickness but generally it is not a longterm drug that is looked upon as safe due to its many side effects. One Major side...
Every time I read an antelope thread the biggest factor people are talking about (besides land) is access to that land....ie....what roads are PUBLIC. For people who have never been to or don't live in WYO this is a completely new concept. There are zillions of people who go to Wyo to hunt...
The only rifle I have with a Break is my Kimber .308. It came without the break and I sighted it in that way. All the reviews said the recoil would be "spirited" hahah. I have the Kimber Aderondak with a teeny vortex 3-9 so it barely weighs 5.5 pounds....it feels like a toy in your hand. That...
We stopped in pueblo on the way back from our hunt this year. Area looks like its exploding! We at at a new Buffalo Wild wings that was in the middle of a brand new shopping area. Definitely an area to look into.
Go back to the site and take photos and turn his A$$ in. He is ruining that area for many people not to mention it is illegal. I purposely hunt an area that doesn't allow ATV usage so that I don't have to deal with them chasing elk all over the mountain. You are putting in hard work hunting...
