You tried to tell me, but I didn’t listen.

Back in early 2000's the PV was phenomenal. Anybody that remembers signing in with Dewey knows what im talking about.
We hunted there for 5-6 years. Then it went to hell. Never went back.
What this tells me is that I need to be better about tapping into the collective HT brain trust.
I looked over a remarkable amount of country on the PV. Fleeting look at 5 antelope. Zero deer. It was crazy.

Used to be you could plant yourself in the middle and see antelope in every direction. Some whoppers too.
Never saw much for deer, although every now and again a big boy might show up during rut.
The antelope herd never recovered.

I almost drove myself crazy mumbling the same question to myself over and over. “How am I not seeing antelope right here?” It’s such a neat piece of country. Darn shame.

Only 18 miles should have actually laced the boots up. Call that a random Thursday. Some of us seems to be delusional about the game numbers as you saw. View attachment 419463
I did my 38,000 steps with a stress level of 1/100, bro. I’m like a chill Chuck Norris. My boots lace up themselves.

Did you play college ball?
Interesting thing. I actually played center among other positions at 180 pounds in high school. My best friend that faced me at nose guard in practice said I hit him harder than anyone he faced in games outweighing me. Maybe it was because I liked him so much. mtmuley

I was shocked, honestly. I mean, I know I’m not the world’s best pronghorn hunter, but I’m not blind. And it’s not like we stayed in the truck all weekend munching on pork rinds at 85 mph on I-94. It was disheartening, for sure. No idea how FWP justifies the tag numbers they’re issuing.

I hunted an area with probably 30 camps on the road. Hiked in from our camp and didn’t see another hunter. We did see plenty of antelope
when we past the four miles in. My son pulled the trigger on the biggest buck we saw at 8.9 miles into our hike. My OnX tracker rolled over to 16 miles as we walked into camp.

Not sure I want to hike that far for an antelope again but it sure was nice seeing antelope all afternoon and no hunters.

In hindsight, I burned too much time this weekend on the PV, I believe.

That’s wild. I had my 13-year-old with me. I was impressed with his 11-1/2 miles on opening day. 16+ is a long haul for antelope. Family record???

Is this where we are in Region 7? Miles hiked per day exceeds inches of horn length???

Awesome Gerald. Congrats to you guys. Well earned. mtmuley

I questioned the miles city office about the quota and they said they had some record counts and everyone they have talked to was excited about the number of antelope they were seeing. Basically got told to stfu. They have a pretty good system if you aren’t seeing what they are seeing you didn’t try hard enough. Everyone is concerned about getting a tag and have short memories. Quota was probably double of what it should have been. Until the public understands that overwhelming an area with tags privatizes wildlife nothing will change.
